Hi guys,
So im running 265/75/16 duratracs right now and I was looking to change over to the pizza cutters 255/85/16s. My question for those of you that have experience with these tires is; did you experience a big loss in power and mpg with the skinnies? I have a 5vz 5spd with 4.10s.

True..what about mpg loss ? Ive heard so many opinions about 285 vs 255s. Some people say that the skinnier tire will take less fuel vs the wider and some say theres no difference.

if you kept the same diameter tire as stock then a skinnier tire would get better mpg.
skinnier tires have a smaller contact patch which means less friction to overcome so it takes less power to move
but since you're going skinnier and larger diameter you probably won't see much difference.

I have 5spd,5vz with 410's. I didn't notice any difference going from 265-285. But going from 285-315 I noticed a lot of difference lol. gas mileage went down the poop shoot with 315/75/16.

In theory:
Comparing a 285 to a 255, assuming the same diameter (they're pretty close), the skinnier should yield better fuel economy for 2 reasons. 1) skinnier tire means less friction both with the ground and with the air. 2) a skinny tire will be lighter than a wide tire of the same construction.

In practice:
You'll be hard pressed to notice a difference. I would be shocked if it made any more than 0.5mpg difference on a normal tank.

Either tire will make the truck feel slower compared to your 265's due to the larger diameter.

I went from 265/70/16 to 255/85/16 with a 3rz and 5spd and 4.56 (so i feel I could give "some" feedback). I was doing right around 3000 RPM at 70 MPH, I think now I'm around 2850 @ 70. But I did all of this knowing that in the future I'm going to run this tire with 5.29s. Yes, you will notice a power loss but nothing major. My mpg before was about 22.5 mpg and I haven't really checked it after. It isn't my DD either.
