I am about to buy my first 4runner. It's for the wife and she like's the Sport Edition becuase it has a hood scoop and I want the v-6 engine. :dunno: Well it's for her so I have to keep her happy. In my searches the only thing I can see being different between them is cosmetic. Is there any difference in brakes, suspension or anything else that I am not seeing?

Thanks and I look forward to posting more once I find the right one.

Matt

The answers to your question depend on what year you are looking to buy. From your post, it sounds like you want to buy a 4th gen, but I noticed that you posted this on the 3rd gen board. A little more info and I'm sure we can help you find the Runner you are looking for.

(4th gen = 2003-2005)
(3rd gen = 1996-2002)

Oops. Sorry thought I put in the years I am looking at, currently in my price range is the 3rd gens 99-01.

Thanks
Matt

The only difference between the SR5 and SR5 Sports is: Hood Scoop, Color Matched bumpers, grille, overfenders (flares), running boards, fog lamps, and sometimes add a e-locker. But most of these things can be added to the SR5 except the scoop.

No, the hoods are the same, except the Sports has a scoop on it. You can easily swap them...(If you get a Sports and dont want the scoop TELL ME and Ill trade with you)

also the sport edition has larger brakes than the sr5 3rd gens and come standard with 16 in wheels. other than that i think its mostly cosmetic differences (ie hood scoop, badges, silver dash trim, different cloth trim)

Nope, brakes are teh same. The only way the SR5 brakes are smaller are if you have 15" wheels. If you have 16" wheels, theyre hte same...

sports have rear heat, but no a/c......also comes with the aluminum skid plate in the front. purely for looks though.
and i think sports only come in black, blue, grey, and red...earlier models (aka "highlander package" came in green too i think

So there's nothing changed engine wise? Just the trim levels and packages?

Ha, well just to keep on with the thread revival, another important and often overlooked difference is the seats - the sport has "sport" seats (side bolsters, etc)

I didn't know this was a older thread but helpful because, I also have a question are the brakes and calpers the same as the sport? I have a 4th gen. ?please and thank you

Another Thread Revival??

Holy hell on the thread revival...

Engines are the same on all models...

HELLO! Just joined for the first time to reply to this thread. Looking for another holy thread revival.

Are there any differences in anything else other than the engine? Are Limited 4x2 and SR5 4x4? I'm swapping a 5vzfe into my 2nd gen. I have an engine harness for a 1999 4runner and it was 4x2 but I have the EWD's of a 1998 sr5 4runner. I've found some discrepancies... Just wanting to see if I can track down the right EWDs!
