Differences in fender - flare - no flare?

Hi everyone,

I have the option to buy a fender that has come off a 98 SR-5 with no flares. Is there a difference between these two fenders?

My truck is a 97 - there is no difference between 96-98 fenders, correct?

All 3rd gen fenders are identical.

Depending on flare the fender will have holes to bolt flares on like my limited. So slight difference.

Im not 100% how that flare connects but it seems to be the type that don't have holes in the fender. So if your buying a fender from a Limited or something with SR5 wide flares it will have holes in the fender. Like the link im going to post.

I have a 2001 4runner SR5 with the large fender flares. I scraped the left side of the truck against a concrete post and need to replace both doors and the front fender.

I found a 1999 limited and I was wondering if I could swap the doors from that or if I would need to replace all the SR5 flares with the limited flares as well?

Do you know if the holes in the fenders are the same on the Sr5 with the larger flares and the limited?

The sheet metal is the same, only difference is the limited and sr5 wide flare is the mounting bracket.

One of the problems I had ( amongst many ) is that my son has the truck at school so I was working from pictures of the damage.

I did have him take it to a body shop where he is at and it turns out that in addition to the both doors on the drivers side the rocker panel under the doors was also pushed in and messed up the alignment of the I-beam between the doors.

I did find a donor truck with the same paint code that I can harvest parts from but I'm thinking getting the rocker panel and I-Beam back into alignment may be a job a little beyond our skills.

the body shop indicated that they would have to replace that along with the rear quarter panel to fix the rear fender damage.

I appreciate the quick response.

We have lurked on this site for the past year for tips on replacing plugs, general problem fixes and it's been simply invaluable.

The Limited flares are slightly different as they have some extra material to match the door cladding.

Our plan was to take all the flares and the doors off the limited donor truck and put them on the SR5.

More work than we wanted to do but at least the left side and the right side would match.

But when we found out the pillar between the doors was pushed out of alignment we are re-thinking the fix and may just have a body shop do the work.

We think we could swap the front fender, flares and doors ourselves but replacing the rear panel and getting the pillar back into alignment is probably outside our capabilities.

Also with the truck away at school complicates the logistics.

I am hoping to actually get eyes on it first hand this coming weekend.

Good news is it still drives the same and you can't see the damage from inside the truck. LOL
