Different Colored Valves 94 3.0VZE

Hi,

I pulled the heads off and all the valves are different colors. Can someone please speculate as to why the wide color variation?

Also i broke and stripped the bolts for the main exhaust hook up to the exhaust manifold, do i have any options other than replacing the exhaust manifold?

the lighter color of 6 of the valves, these are the exhaust valves, they are always hotter than the intake because no cold air goes across them during operation. The intake valves have cooler air around them when they are open.

The dirtier they are, the worse that cylinder is running. Most likely due to bad compression/ improper fuel air mixture or the valves not being adjusted correctly.

Which stud did you break> Most of them are replaceable...

Here are the nuts/posts I messed up. I really had a hard time with the exhaust stuff. Is that an easy fix.

use a torch to get them nice and hot and then use vise grips. I'm not too sure about replacing the studs. If you are going to have your heads worked on at a machine shop, they should be able to extract the broken one and replace it. Hell, if you bring it in the way it is, they can probably get those rounded off nuts off for you too.

Im not 100% on this, but I cant the broken studs be pounded out the back and new ones put in? Arnt they splined?

Thanks for the advise, I took the whole thing into the machine shop and they took everything off.

The pressure tested my heads and they were leaking pretty bad and warped. They are machining them down and doing something with the valves and seats. They were also testing the cam thrust?

I am excited to start putting this back together.
