Different ISR mods

I recall seeing an ISR mod that used PVC end caps and hose fittings somewhere... how does that version differ from this one?

I've got the caps and hose fittings version, been on my 96 4Runner more than 5 years. No more boxes. No tee into another hose. Someone did have the cap suck to the butterfly (no damage caused) so make sure your fittings are good. The version with the end-caps is for the 96-97 Runners because the airbox setup and intake hoses are different than for 98 - 2001 Runners. Then 2002 runners have a different setup for how setup the FPR vacuum line from the rest.

What year is your Runner???

2001. So i guess I don't need to go through the extra hassle of adding the hose ports. I still havn't decided I am going to do the mod though, since it seems to get mixed reviews on low end performance and I read it can cause pinging... but at least I know what to do if I decide to. Thanks.

Could somebody in california let me know if they are able to pass the visual inspection of their smog test with the isr (does it look stock enough still), or will I need to switch out the parts every 2 years?

I got no pinging on mine.

painted it flat back to match the rest of the dirtness. but I am in MT and they dont look at stuff like that.

I swapped the whole hose out for a polished aluminum piece on my Lexus and passed the visual just fine. No guarantee that a different smog shop would feel the same way though.

Yeah, my smog shop was really picky on my 77 celica even though i showed them the carb # for my CA legal weber kit. I guess I might just switch it out every couple years, since its easy anyways. Or find a more relaxed smog shop.
