Different sized tire on my 4WD - will this hurt?

I just bought a used 4Runner, and am getting new tires put on all 4 corners when they come in (Continental ContiCross Contact LX's).

Currently, the rig has 235/17's on three corners, and 265/17's on one corner. I'm sure this isnt good for the drivetrain; does anyone know how I can ensure nothing was harmed by this setup?

was it like this when you bought it?

is it a 4wd or 2wd? where is the 265 tire?

Great questions. They all have 65 aspect ratio's, so they're:

Driver Front: 235/65/17
Driver Rear: 235/65/17
Passenger Front: 235/65/17
Passenger Rear: 265/65/17

It's a 2003 V8 4WD Sports Edition.

Do you have any idea how long it was run this way? If it was more than a few hundred miles I would change the rear differential fluid as the rear diff was working a harder than normal.

Given that it's new to you I always suggest that both diffs, transfer case and transmission get fresh fluid unless you can find supporting documentation that would confirm the age/mileage of the fluids. If there's reciepts in the glovebox you might even figure out when the tire deal occured. My guess would be the previous owner bought 4 235/65/17's and got a flat. When you look at the spare it'll probably be another 235...

I also find it very strange that the previous owner would do this. But then again, the interior was in horrible condition when I bought it.

They didnt even bother with floor mats, so the carpet beneath the accelerator is worn down to the metal and the rest of the carpet is in horrible condition and nothing inside had been cleaned for who knows how long.

Surprisingly, the engine compartment was extremely clean and the paint on the outside is in good condition.
