Different "woodgrain" colors?

I got my CCU back today from JRZEE2000T4RLTD ( which seems to work perfectly now) so I had the replacement center trim bezel ready to go in when everything got put back together. Once I was finished I noticed that the "new" center trim looked like it was a lot darker in color, more like a walnut color. All of the other trim looks like it has more "orange" color in it. I know that I matched the old broken trim bezel to the replacement and it was a perfect match.

I don't know how I didn't notice the different shades of wood grain earlier, so now I'm wondering if there all like this or if somehow mine have been mismatched some how.

Not the best pic but you can see a clear difference at the bottom of the center trim where it meets the gear shift trim.

The wood colors are different. From 1996-2000 everything was the lighter wood, although the trim itself is different. In 2001 and 2002 they went to the darker wood.

Not sure why the base model would have wood grain, is it the wood appliqué? Also odd that the 99 would have dark wood. I've seen countless 3rd gen limiteds and I've never seen a 99-00 with dark wood, or a 01-02 with light wood.

My base model is fully loaded & has more options than many base SR5's.
But I was looking at pics & my Limited has the typical 99-00 Limited wood grain. Not the dark but my Base wood is not as marbleized.

Damnit !! Obviously the wrecking yard in MN lied to me about the year of the donor. Now what to do.. I don't want to buy another center bezel and be stuck with this one. Maybe if I get a shifter bezel in the darker color it won't be as obvious and it won't cost very much.

If you decide to go this route, I'll take your current shifter bezel of your hands. I've always wanted to "covert" my 96 LTD interior to the 99+.

You'll always be able to sell it here, look at the part outs in the classifieds.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Once I figure out what to do, I'll contact you ' thecole1098' if I decide to do something with my current shifter bezel. Although this is a minor thing to deal with, it's ALWAYS something, isn't it?

I may be able to help you out with a lighter dash bezel. I'm will be going to several junk yards in Vegas and Reno, and the chances of finding one are fairly good. If I find one you could buy it and either sell the other to me, or just sell it yourself on ebay or the forum.

If you are interested, I can let you know in the next week if I find one.

Are you sure the wood on the 3RZ isn't aftermarket? The wood trim just below the radio doesn't look like a factory location. But it is kinda hard to tell from that pic.

It was most likely a dealer installed option. The stick on appliqué wood was somewhat common on Base and SR5's.

I'm sure, I drove it off the showroom floor 18 years ago. :hello: Not all stereos are the same either. Mine was an am/fm cassette player with no CD. You could also get a 3 disk player or the premium 6 disk player.

Could be, it does have the Toyota Circle "T" logo in it.

97 SR5, this is what mine looks like too. I dont know what that light colored piece is around the shifter but mine is manual so it's a different shape & the color matches the radio surround.

I've seen the darker wood only in 99+ 4runners, Lighter wood in earlier models. In the factory dipped plastic, not stick on.

For what it's worth, the woodgrain gauge bezel and ignition bezel came out of a 2001 limited according to the junkyard I bought them from.

As can be seen – they match perfectly with the woodgrain center HVAC/stereo bezel that came with my 97 limited. Now I just need the dark woodgrain shifter bezel. :hat:
