differential for 89 t4r ?

Hello,

I have an 89 t4r with the v6 and automatic tran. I currently have some 255/75/15 tires from 225/75/15 original tires, I have lost a lot of torque and power with the new tires especially when in overdrive, anybody knows what is the original differential gear ratio with this truck and what gear ratio I should look for, I don't want to high of rpm as I use the truck both on highway and off road.

4.88 is what the 2nd gen with v6 and auto had.
you need to look at your door tab for your ratio

im guessing its 4.10 like most of the 4runners that year.

Not all of them, It also depended on if they had the 31 factory tire option and or tow package.

It's ok as a temporary thing, as long as you don't put it in four wheel drive. There's no differential between the front and rear drivelines, so if you tried to use 4wd with different gear ratios you'd cause binding and something would probably break (driveline, differential, or transfer case).

Where are you finding a 4.60 ratio? Do you mean 4.56?

not good even for temporary any difference in ratio will cause binding. even in 4hi in the mud you will bind up and risk blowing up differentials trannys and transfer case.

thats not a big difference.
its going to be expensive to regear the diffs, especially for such a small change.

perhap just keep it out of OD from now on.

and, i always thought the v6/autos got 4.30 gears.

so, you would probably be happy with 4.56s.
but, again, thats not much gearing difference, but its going to be quite expensive to have done.
