Differential Gears replacements for 4Runner V6 - supplier reviews?

Hello,

I am from Poland and currently I'm building an offroad "truck". I want to change a differential gears in my toyota axles. As ring and pinions are not available here in normal money I would like to buy ones from US. I was told I need to look for 8'' inch V6 version, years 1986-1994.

I went through ebay and found such sets:

I was looking for some opinions or reviews about this USA Standard Gear and most what I found is they are quite alright. I dont have a big budget so Yukon or Nitro is not an option, but as I am not from "here" I will not able to complain when sth will broke down. Just dont want to buy trash. This Trail Creeper seems also to be a good choice as product from Trail Gear shop.

Can you provide for me some opinions on these gears? I will be very grateful for any help.

I've got the USA standard gears in the front, they aren't noisy at all like I had heard from reviews, they are actually very quiet even at 55+ MPH.

From what I've read (not saying it's true), they are Yukon's quality control 2nd's.

No comment on the other set, I've never heard of them till now, and never had experience with them.

I'm running USA Standard in my front diff and haven't had any trouble with them. USA gears are made on the same factory floor as Yukon. I'm told that when a set of Yukon fails QC for being too noisy, they slap a USA Standard label on it instead.

Remember that you'll need to regear both differentials, and you'll want to order a setup kit to make things easier on your installer. What year is your 4Runner? 84-85 4Runners have solid axles with "4cyl" style 8" differentials front and rear. 86-87 4Runners have a "4cyl" 8" rear and a 7.5" IFS diff in front. 22RE Turbo models got what we now call the "V6" 8" rear differential, and starting in '88 trucks with the 3.0 V6 got the upgraded 8" diff too. That's all for the US of course, where we didn't get any of the diesel options at all, so some of that may be slightly different overseas. If you're not sure of your differential style, it's easy to determine - a straight front axle will always have the "4cyl" 8" diff and an IFS front end will always have the 7.5" diff. The rear diff will always be an 8" diff - if it has three ribs on each side, it's a 4cyl style, if it has 4 ribs on each side it's a V6 style (see here:Erik's Toyota Differential info).

I am asking because I was only ordering from LowRange till today, but on ebay, this guy has nice feedback ratio. Another thing is that these gears are quite cheap as we look only for price. But if you say they are quite alright I think I will try to order one. Parts from this setup kit , like bearings, are available here - even with better pricing, so no worry

About my truck, this is for Toyota that was produced for European market. Frankly speaking I have only toyota axles and the rest is from "Zuki" or was ... Axles are from Land Cruiser LJ70 (4.88 ratio) and I am not sure if this model was being sold in US. Now, I am going to replace rear diff with one from Toyota Land Cruiser J9, as it has a factory locker. In Europe you can find it only with 4.1 or 4.3 ratio. So this is why I am looking to buy some aftermarket gears. My friend was doing similar conversion and told me that gears from 4Runner v6 will be ok.

I've bought from Ron's Machining on EBay and had no complaints. He's got a good feedback rating and great prices, so if you're sure he'll ship overseas I wouldn't worry about buying from him in the least.

As for whether you're buying the right thing - you've lost me. You've got a Suzuki with 70-series Landcruiser axles? This is critical, because I'm almost 100% sure that the 70 series used a Landcruiser 9.5" ring gear, not the 8" that minitrucks and 4Runners got. I'm not familiar with the J9, but it looks like it may be a 100-series, which would also have that 9.5" diff. I'm not sure the 8" ring and pinion are the ones you want.

Can you post a couple hi-res pics of the third member in your rear axle so we can ID it?

Now I am going to replace the rear diff with one from LC 90 :

Well smack my ass and call me Susan, that looks a heck of a lot like an 8" third. I'm amazed that Toyota would use the 8" diff in a Landcruiser. Here's a Landcruiser 9.5 ARB third vs an elocked 8" third:
