Diffs and Transfer case fluid kit

Looking at changing my fluid in my diffs and transfer case. I did it 30k ago all with mobile 1 75w-90 since that’s what most recommended. I like to go back and try a 75w in the transfer case and noticed Ravenol now sells a whole kit with 75w and 75w-85 for $100. Has anyone used this in your diffs and TC and how did you like it? Compared to Mobil 1 since I know a lot of people were using that for awhile

That's a very nicely priced alternative to the OEM 75w fluid for the transfer case! Nice find!

I have not used it yet... but I have looked into this before and planning to use Ravenol (J1C1003 SAE 75W) for transfer case.

As a side note: I have used Ravenol antifreeze (FL22 Coolant) in my wife's car- no issues.

I always just used 75-90 for the transfer case. Never had issues.

I only use 75-90. That's all Toyota uses as well according to my buddy who is a mechanic at Toyota. I think he said they recently discontinued the 75-85.

Redline has fluids that meet Toyota specs. Front and rear diff along with transfer case. I’ve had the fluid in my transfer and rear for awhile and have had no issues.

I think I’m just gonna use cheap synthetic in the front since I never activate it.

Errrmahgad! You did not mention the holiest of holy, Amswayoil!
(Weird how only people selling it have glowing reviews which entices people to buy the MLM oil)

But you were saying what I was thinking.
Redline stuff is overkill for most people here.

but dude.. the price was the reason why i went w/ redline. If i had to pay the same price for ravenol vs redline then i may as well get the redline stuff:

17.95 x 2 for transfer Redline MT-LV
17.50 x 5 (3 qts for rear, 2 quarts for front) of Redline 75w85

All I use is Redline stuff.
Their Heavy Shockproof gear oil is flipping amazing!
I bought into the Amsoil hype years ago, then saw some stuff at tracks that changed my mind :scared: and ran Redline since.
I buy in bulk for nine Toyotas and one Land Rover so it is fairly comparable to top shelf auto store stuff. Highest mileage in the fleet right now is over 515,000 miles, 36k+/yr. :banana:

Scotty mentions RL @ 4 minutes.
I like watching him for some reason.
I notice he has cases of RL in his garage.




Amsoil, POR 15 and Fluid Film are all "forum" products. Bought into the hype with each when I was younger, then I found out the "hard" way for each.

I also have Ravenol in my TC Since 30k and now at 40k, no problems. I may switch all to Redline 75w-85 at 60k since it meets the 75W spec.

i think youre switching fluids too soon.. the oem t/c fluid and gear oil would have easily made it past 100k.. these fluids dont contaminate like oil does...

i would recommend a complete ATF swap if youre still on OEM fluid

Peeps get bored, have money, and look for new/exotic stuff.
You notice this most with Amway/Amswayoil people.
They will change basically "brand new" fluids just to say they run forum darling brand, Amsoil.

I run Amsoil. However, I don't dump good fluids just run it (my 19 Runner still has factory fill minus the engine oil) and I don't advertise to the public (stickers) that I run it. It's not terribly expensive because I just run the OE line since I'm not looking to extend change intervals. Also I get a slight discount. Run what you want. Kendall makes good stuff. :fencing:

I’ve heard of quite a few dealers doing that also. From what I’ve heard they put that in your diffs and TC

I never said what mileage I’m at just that I last did it 30k ago.

I definitely would not run the same diff and TC fluid for 100k seeing as a tow a lot. Just the the ATF though

Fair enough, but I would feel safer with an oil that was spec'd, if previously, than an oil that was not; particularly where operating at the lower end of the viscosity range. The earlier FJ Cruiser manual called for 75w-90.

I rechecked, and the Ravenol site says the xfer case fluid meets Toyota’s-81081 fluid specs, but Toyota calls for the LF fluid, -81080. Confusing, and of unknown importance, but there it is. I went with the OEM fluid when in warranty.

Does anyone have a link for the correct redline that meets specs for the diffs and tc?
