dim reverse lights after rear camera install

I did a quick search on reverse lights but all I found was threads on installing brighter lights or aux. lights
I installed a back up camera that has worked for a while until I just had my amps installed and wired for a sub. the wire to the camera was cut and rehooked up ( I tapped into the passenger side tail light ) now i don't have the camera anymore and my reverse lights are REALLY dim. the camera tries to turn on, the radio shows the warning screen, but not all the time and I don't have a picture.
I can understand if it just affected the one light but not both
any ideas?
thanks

I am sure we are missing a WHOLE bunch of info.

Simply put you have power bleed, or too much interference. You don't explain how the camera was hooked up. Its power source. Whether you spliced into a power line or ran a dedicated line from the battery/wiring harness back.

My meaning is this: Look at it step by step. 1. Problem - Dim brake light 2. Possibilities - Unless the lamp is bad, it is a power issue. I suspect you f'ed up some wiring somewhere. Either you have a bad/incomplete circuit or a loose connection. You really need to go over everything you did. It could very well be a loose wire nut or whatever you used to splice up the wiring at some junction.

So. My official diagnosis? Check every bit of wiring brake light back.

Both lights are dim because both lights represent a circuit. You have clearly messed up the circuit, in what I suspect is a weak splice.

This is honestly as accurate of info you can get from the internet. :)

this all helps thanks
I talked to my friend that installed the amps and he said he spliced the wires together I think he did the ground and positive together I will have to check I just wanted to have a good place to start
the way I have it hooked up:
I fished the wires through the rear gate and ran them through the spoiler access hole and down to the rear light harness I then spliced the power wire to the reverse lights and ran a wire up to the radio along with the vga wire.

you are suppose to run a dedicate power wire to the camera. seeing how u tap to the reverse light, its not providing the current it needs. on the tailgate ecu, u can find a constant power, and the reverse is to trigger. what camera is it? specs and brand will help.
