Diode Dynamics SMD12 Hatch Lighting

I hadn't seen anyone post about using these in the hatch lights, but took the shot that I could make them work.

Since they aren't cheap, thought I'd post so someone looking would be able to see that they do fit. The Diode Dynamics page says 'may need to be mounted to the outside of the light cover'... um... no.

Finally got these in today... long lead time!

The entire underside of the board is a big piece of 3M tape

They need to mount into here for the trunk lights:

Checked the polarity first to make sure I had them in right (by lightly attaching everything then plugging in the light to the hatch):

I used these little clips I had left over from a ford engine project to pull out the lights by inserting all the way in then pulling down, which worked perfectly... but turns out they were more useful than I expected. You can find these at any auto parts store, they come in packs of 6-10... used for fuel filter type connections. Just ask for the 'little clippy things'... they'll know what you mean :frog:

And these little plastic clips make a pretty decent mounting point

Peel and stick, much more secure than I was expecting

And then put the light back in...

How much brighter would you say they are then your typical Phillips LED in the dome light? That's the only light I have I feel could be brighter. Well it's bright for what it is. I feel like there should be two bulbs in there.

I don't have the Phillips to compare to, but 2 of them sure light up the back end pretty good.

I put one of their smd6 boards in the dome...
