The past two days I spent doing something I've been wanting to do for some time now. I installed new valve cover gaskets, plenum gaskets, PCV valve and drive belts. They weren't leaking to bad, just minor weeping, but it was wet all the way around and I do not like anything leaking!
It was a pretty intimidating job, just because I've never dug into the motor that far before. However, it was a fairly straight forward job. As long as all connections that were disconnected are reconnected it works just as good. Total time was about 10 hrs over 2 days.
The tips I have for anyone going to do this job is to take your time and make all mating surfaces clean...very clean...brand new looking clean. About 75% of the first day of dis-assembly was cleaning all the important surfaces and just getting the grit out of spots were it shouldn't be. As you can see I didn't paint the plenum or valve covers because simply I don't like the look of the them black and wasn't going to put extensive hours into cleaning the aluminum.
Also take the time to put Dielectric grease around the edges of the electrical plugs if there is a threat of water to the engine.
Now for a few pics of the process, and some part numbers for the valve cover gaskets and plenum gaskets if anyone needs them.
The portable garage canopy
New gaskets installed along with the PCV valve, which I recommend replacing since the cover is off and much easier to get out if the old grommet is dry and hard like mine was.

And one shot of the new belts. Another easy but much needed job for my Runner.
