Dirty control arm - lower ball joint?

Hey all -

I'm shopping for a T4R and totally stoked!

Found one out of state and I'm doing my best to check it out without being able to see it in person. Want to help? I know this is my first post and I'm asking for help, so I promise to post some good TRs once I'm up and running.

What do you make of the dirty control arm on the left here? Torn CV boot? Lower ball joint about to go? Nothing at all?

Also, oily floor pan. Rear transmission seal leak?

Otherwise, nice and rust free, huh?

What is the mileage?

Oil in the LCA could be from a torn CV boot. About $20 at rock auto.
It is good to replace lower ball joints as they tend to fail with high mileage. You can buy both from Camelback.com for like $170 shipped. ALWAYS OEM.
Buy parts from the dealer (Camel back seems to give good deals when ordered online) or NAPA. Avoid other places.

The second picture is the gas tank cover and I too wonder how it got oil.

I like the way how the rock sliders are installed.

What is the asking price and trim?

Mileage is 178,000. So not horrible but definitely lower ball joint time from what I've been reading.

Asking price is higher than most - $12,000.

Trim is SR5, though as you can gather from the picture it is locked/lifted/armored.

Super clean and quite a bit other work done to it too. (robust trans cooling system, 4.56 Yukon gears, sway bar discos, bumpers, winch, etc...)

Trying to not let all of the great options completely seduce me. That oil under the gas tank is troubling!

looks like they did a messy oil change. the oil filter is right above that control arm and looks like it got all over it and they drove and it flung it to the gas tank skid as well.
i got lazy one day and left the factory skid on and there was oil on my shaft and rear diff from the excess on top of the skid plate.

Good catch, I-bRAD! I'll have to ask about that.

FYI, the seller says the grime on the armor is from a front diff leak (that has been fixed).

The truck is due for a timing belt / fuel pump - it was last done 90K ago. So I'm definitely going to take that into consideration if I make an offer.

Also, body is in great shape - no dents, zero rust, great paint.

Yes, I'm sort of trying to justify my interest in this expensive car.

But there's no way I'd be able to make all of these upgrades to a, say, $6000 4Runner and come out ahead.
