Dirtyfingers' build thread..

Okay so I got home today, hold the flaming but I did a 23 hour non stop drive back to Texas, terrible. The 4runner however, was a champ. I ended up putting 285s on her at stock hight, slight rubbing.

I went with falken tires. They are actually not too bad of a tire. I was surprised to not have any road noise.

When I got home I was greeted by my two loving parents that helped support me thought the deployment. Much love to them. But when I went into my room and garage, it was an early Christmas for me.

I didn't realize you had a build thread. Consider me subscribed.

I just want to throw this out there ... don't monstraline it. Your paint looks pretty decent and I unless there is something I'm not seeing I think the looks would decrease if you bedliner it or monstraline it.

I happen to like red trucks as well as black (of course) and I think yours will look pretty sweet once you put those wheels, sliders and the bumper on it.

Also ... more pics (of the whole truck) duhhhh.

For sure! Thank you haha. As far as the paint goes, it's been keyed numarus time before I bought it, there's a word on the side that I won't be shareing on this forum, and there's the large area on the lift gate that had the paint taken off and rusted from when the PO had backed into a pole or something and there's chips all over the hood. I took it to a collision center and to get it fixed would cost me well over what I want to pay.

So I took off my bumper, and started on putting in some horns I bought from a Cadillac. The it started storming, which I didn't mind after not seeing rain for a few months. Also did the ISR mod really quick. Here's my write up about the ISR:

First I took the bumper off

Just kidding, that's for the bumper hehe

Okay on a serious note. I removed these hoses:

After I got all that taken off it was easy to take the silencer off, I also took the air box off to make it easy to access.

Taken off I was able to test fit this:

It was pretty much plug and play after that

It cleaned up the bay a bunch, enough to fit in a compressor for an future air locker?? Maybe. Stay tuned, after it stops raining more to come.

So I had some friends over, they helped me remove a bunch of stuff so that was good, also got the front bumper primed.

You should be able to fit a compressor in there. That's where I put mine.

I tried doing that with mine but the damn ABS unit is in the way on the 96-98's. It was a weird fit, even after moving the cruise control module - and I just have the smaller ARB compressor.

Dirtyfingers, I'm going to bend the mounting bracket for mine and mount it to the right of the ABS unit. I can't find another place to put it. (if you end up getting an ARB)

Edit... looking back at your pics, you have way more room than I do lol damnit.

Haha yeah i was impressed by the room, but the locker isn't for a while. I have so many projects haha

Okay so a long two days, had some trouble with my bumper...never got a call back from 4xinnovations..but I figured it out and got it mounted up. But before that I got my front lift on. Thank you toytec! It went on pretty easy and was plug and play of course, couldn't do the back though because I couldn't get the coil compressor to work...after three long hours...so I'm going to figure something else out soon. And without further ado. Here's a small write up of the fruit of my labor.

First I had to prime and paint it,

I painted the inside with dupli-color black because the inside isn't seen by most people. The outside I then painted with bed liner

After the bumper was painted I let dry for idk how long and ended up putting the front lift on, pretty straight forward.

So all that was good to go, last which was today I was putting the bumper on, this thing was a B to get on! Holy crap I didn't think bumpers were so stubborn! We couldn't get it to line up at all, but we finally got it done.

That's it for now, I'm now on the edge about painting it. It just looks good, I think I might have to sell the bed liner so if you're interested it's dessert sand tan from monstaliner, I'm keeping the black however. Thanks guys.

While trying to install the rear coils, do you have the sway bar links disconnected and no shocks mounted? It may have something to do with my custom links that have flex joints but i have been able to install Superflex and OME 861s without disconnecting anything else. I dont fu*k with spring compressors if i dont have to, they honestly scare me.

The black bumper looks great dude, glad its staying that color.

No to the disconnecting, I also have billie 5100s that need to go on too. I had the one that I was using pretty much snap on me...so yeah. That made me not want to screw around with it anymore.

Thank you. Me too that means I can relax while I'm on leave haha
