Did they give you OEM TPMS sensors?

I don't want to be unreasonable about the scratches, but it seems there should be a way to change tires without scratching wheels. I noticed they were using a metal tool to pop the bead of the old tire off the wheel, so I'm assuming that's what did it. Aside from looks, my issue is that once the clearcoat gets damaged, it leads to aluminum oxidation under the surface. Granted, I could be driving down the road tomorrow and have a kicked up rock to the same thing.

OEM sensors and wheels all from my local dealer. The jackass " tire tech " skated the socket from the impact gun across the face of the wheels AND gouged the wheels with the tire machine. This after I instructed them to remove the wheels by hand and torque them back on properly by hand. Not just a scratch or chip either, he gouged them through the paint down to the aluminum. ALL OF THEM! I called the next day to speak with the manager who had already left by the time my truck was done the night before. It was also dark when I left so I really didn't notice it until the next morning other than the TPMS sensors of course. He said no problem, very sorry, come on in and let me look at it and take pictures to document the damage. Following day I did as he asked, truck had 300 miles on it mind you. He said "we'll have to get you a coupon book or something but we'll make it right" So naturally I asked, what do you mean coupon book? He says, free oil changes and stuff like that. Now I do all my own work but that's not the point. I about lost my shit and just looked at him. I said absolutely not, you'll be replacing all wheels with brand new OEM wheels, truck was spotless when it came in and I expect it to leave that way. After a call to the district manager, they did make it right, they ordered 4 new wheels from the dealer, new sensors from the dealer, and had a different tech move the tires over. Pretty sure that "tech" no longer works for them either. This was all on my 2016 Tacoma

the TMPS has to be programmed .. I posted the procedure .. so they may not have the tool to program toyota vehicles .

PCM needs the new sensor ID #.. PCM is looking for the broken sensor ...

Ok, thanks. I'll verify if they can do Toyota OEM TPMS. Yeah, I called them back this afternoon about picking up the original tires they pulled off (which they said they would give me credit for, but then denied it once I got there - another story for another day), and asked which wheel they put the new sensor in. Just as I guessed, it was the front passenger wheel since the valve stem doesn't stick out the same length as the others.

This happened to me today at Discount. I had a KO2 that would not balance properly and got a replacement tire today. They broke the TMS sensor and put one of theirs in. They offered to give me the broken sensor and I just told them to trash it. Why would I want it? So. No issues at all so far and if there are any I think Discount will own it and fix the problem.

Must not have read my post. Yes, Discount Tire can do programming of the Toyota OEM tire pressure sensors and they do it for free.

Yep, I saw it and am hoping that's the case with mine. From doing some googling, though, it seems that some DTs don't have the same equipment and/or the employees aren't quite as competent, haha. Keeping my fingers crossed!

My wife took my 1995 4Runner to Discount Tire for new tires. It came back with a mixture of lug nuts, scratches and bashed in caps on all 4 wheels. My bad for "discovering" this horrible job until a month later because it had become my wife's vehicle to drive around our small kids. I felt like it was too late to go back and complain so I lived with it. But....I will NEVER go back. That place is on my forever banned list!

Just wanted to post an update.

Went back to DT yesterday and had a chat with the manager. They were extremely apologetic and admitted that none of this should’ve happened to my almost new 4Runner. They ordered an OEM TPMS sensor from the local Toyota dealer, which should be in tomorrow. The scratches on the wheels aren’t that bad, so they aren’t willing to replace them. They said that they could send them out for refinish if I wanted (put a set of aftermarket wheels on, send mine off, and then have them back in a day or two), or they could compensate me. I’m thinking about just taking the latter option.

Does anyone know how much it costs to have wheels refinished? I’m wondering how much money I should ask for. The manager said “tell me how much you want”, and I just told him I’d have to think about it. I’m not looking to rip them off, but I do think they owe me something for the damage and my time trying to polish out what I can of the scratches.

Just came up with an idea! I'm going to see how much they'll give me towards new wheels, and then I can try to get some TRD Pros. I called the wheel refinishing place that DT uses, and they said it's $125/wheel plus any mount/balance charges. That being said, I'm sure DT gets a discount off that. Being that the stock wagon wheels run $360 each new, they may help me out with the TRD Pros which are only $180 each.

OK, to update you guys on this debacle, I just returned to DT for the 4th time for them to repair my TPMS sensor. The good news is that the TPMS seems to be fixed with an OEM sensor. The bad news is that I think they used my front skidplate as a jack point this morning. I noticed that they lifted it once, and then let it back down before jacking it up again. Seems that they may have bent up the corner of my skidplate.

Can any of you guys please take a look at the passenger side of your front skidplate and tell me if this bend is in the corner/junction? I've attached a couple photos. There's definitely a scrape there, but not sure if the bend should be there or not. I'm so fed up with these people...

Oh brother, that doesn’t look right. I think I would find a different discount tire from now on. If you were closer I would tell you to take mine for all the problems you’ve had, there just sitting in the garage. Unfortunately I just had double hernia surgery and I can’t look anytime soon. So that bend in the skid plate isn't normal, haha? Thanks for the words of encouragement! These things I'm going through are really small potatoes in the grand scheme of life, so I probably shouldn't get worked up about them. I just wanted a new set of tires, but never thought it would result in many hours of my time wasted and damage (although minimal) to my new 4Runner!

Yeah, that was actually the first thing I looked at. Different skid designs, I'm assuming after the face lift.
