Thanks guys... it was definitely a fun project and not too difficult. I think we are going to start working on an internal tire rack this weekend. His spare doesn't fit underneath anymore and it's flopping around in the back. I'll try to post some pictures if we make something.

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on one myself. I'm trying to decide between the Baileigh or a JD2.
I went back and forth between them. I liked that you can convert the JD2 to hydraulic pretty easy. With the Baileigh I liked that you don't have to unpin and repin the dies as it will do a full 200+ degree bend without repinning. I think they are both great and I would have been happy with either. At the end of the day I found this one for a great deal and bought it. I am going to try and make it hydraulic someday...

Those turned out killer..gonna have to do some similar ones for the woman's rig for sure..I took the running boards off when I did the lift and looks MUCH better but she's protesting. Lol. These will be a nice compromise.

Picked up a 2004 4Runner for my son a few months ago. We spent a fair amount of time getting it back into great mechanical condition. The PO changed the oil regularly, but didn't do much else. Needed new CV axles, rotors, brakes all the way around, front wheel bearings, change ever fluid in it, fixed a bunch of small leaks, installed an ICON lift and some tires and wheels and a bunch of other stuff. Then we decided to try building a set of sliders.
First I picked up this Baileigh bender real cheap... and then had some 1.75 DOM and 2x2 square tube delivered. This is my first project using a bender, so I spent a bunch of time reading before bending anything.
Started by figuring out the length and where I wanted the bends. Laid out a template on the floor, so I could replicate the bends.
I notched the tubes and cut some smaller support. Then welded them together.
Then I cut some base plates out of 1/4" plate. Drilled the mounting holes and had to bend the front plate since the frame on these truck start to narrow at the front body mount.
Then I cut some legs and tacked them to the mounting plates.
Then tacked the actual slider in place.
We removed the sliders and burned everything together. Then cut some gussets out of 1/4" plate and welded them to the legs at the mounting plates. This is how they looked once finished prior to powdercoating.
We dropped them off for powdercoating... and got these back. The powdercoating turned out great.
My son installed them yesterday. Pretty happy with the outcome given it was my first project using a bender.
The obligatory hi lift jack test...
At some point I might go back and weld the sliders to the frame along the bottom of the legs. For now it's a daily driver so not too worried about him beating it on the rocks.
OP, do you happen to have the measurements that you used for these available? Im looking to custom build some myself and these look like just the thing im wanting, low profile underneath but with a good sized kick out / step for the rear.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here you go... the thing to remember is they til up slightly. Be careful to measure against the bottom of the door, so it doesn't hit the slider when opening. My bender dies are 6" on center. Good luck with your sliders.

Wow those are awesome!! I totally want to do this, even though I've never welded, never bent steel tube, never fabricated (from metal)... but I've never been accused of letting lack of knowledge stop me.... Gotta start somewhere.
I totally think you'd be safe making these for people who want them, if you just kept it as a private transaction / custom service type of thing. I think the starting of a small company would cause the "problem." (...As if starting your own small business was such a bad thing in the good ole' USA).
I'd like to start a custom fab company called: "F*#& OFF GOBI!" I'd have neon pink lettering all up and down my products... I'll bet Gobi would go after individuals who do stuff like this if they could realistically get away with it. That whole deal was such BS... but I digress. Again, nice work!

I like the way you think man.
All of the above. Used some existing and drilled new holes. The ones that go all the way through use grade 8 with lock nuts on the inside of the frame rails.

Awesome sliders. I'll be making a set like this for my 4r soon.
Out of curiosity, how could metaltech, or gobi or anyone sue even if he were to sell for $. Do they have a design patent on their sliders?

they both just sue on some lame grounds and the smaller company always loses. they simply don't have the money to hire lawyers just to make a $100 on each pair of sliders or racks. Now we have less choices and stuck with that style that nobody wants to design something even close. they want to monopolize a small market instead of help the industry grow

I am so glad you posted those measurements! Thank you! I just drew up a pair for myself in SketchUp and had some fun tweaking it a bit! I can't wait to start fabing.
