For anyone looking for a great place to work on your truck, learn to work on your truck, or have a great guy (Alexi) work on your truck. I highly recommend them. I spent about 2 hours talking to him this morning. I'm gonna do some fab work on my truck the week after next. I'll have use of all their tools, and the guidence of a shop pro to help with anything I can't figure out. Plus he offers classes every now and again.

That is a cool idea. Especially in areas where having a winter heated garage t work in is worth its weight in gold.

$35 an hour to DIY, or extra $15 to not have to touch it, i think i would rather pay someone, but only if i had to pay $35 an hour to work on my car.

But i have done many repairs in parking lots and on driveways in cold weather, and you know what, i would do it all over again.

Like most small business starting out, most prices are flexible. A fab job to build a rotopax holder onto my rear tire swingout would have cost me $350+. Through this shop with a little guidence. I'll be spending $85 labor. $25 materials. Plus I learn some basic welding skills. Win, Win as far as i can see.

FWIW, most Military installations also have a place like this... I know the ones I have been to do. Much much MUCH cheaper rates...

Yes there is a hobby shop on Camp Pendleton, but IIRC you're not supposed to modify suspension there and there's no welding in the picture. But then again, it's been a few years since I've been there. Plus, now I can't use a dependent ID card to get on base or to the hobby shop...

Oh i do like the idea, I just am a bit lucky to have a place like this that doesn't cost me money. I just can't justify thud $35 an hour for it, but I do like the idea and I do feel it is a fair price.

Good info.

The Sub base in Point Loma, San Diego has a hobby shop. So does dry side of 32nd St. Naval base in San Diego.

Unfortunately those are only open to active or reservists but the rates are great, like $6/hr for a stall.
