Rack came in yesterday, 40" light bar ready. And I wasnt clear before, wanted to know if the mounting brackets were removeable. Thanks for clearing that up for me, havent opened up box yet.
Yeah we will, putting my rack up this weekend along with my sliders that just came in.

To be honest, I wish I had done removeable cross bars. Love the idea of being able to adjust them forward and backward.

Yakima Rocket Box
One other quick note: if you are wanting to use a Yakima Rocketbox 21 like mine, the box sticks out past the end of the front of the rack due to the placement of the permanent cross bars. The top front bar that rises up lifts the front end of the Rocketbox up pretty high. I had to open the box, push down on the inside floor and tighten down the box clamps at the same time to get it to fit. If I had removable cross bars, I could have moved the box back and it would have fit down inside the rack a bit better. But I've been using it like this for awhile now with no issues.
One other quick note: if you are wanting to use a Yakima Rocketbox 21 like mine, the box sticks out past the end of the front of the rack due to the placement of the permanent cross bars. Sorry for the thread resurrection, but everyone encourages search and this seems like the right place to ask!
Does anyone know if it's possible to safely install a Gobi rack without both the wind fairing and the front sticky feet? I ask because I wouldn't be putting any load beyond the factory front attachment location and don't like how the wind fairing sits on the paint. I could get a 3/4 length Baja Rack to avoid this, but I like the Gobi Stealth instead because it gives me a place (forward) to better mount my lights.

Paint protection film. That's what I did.

Yeah, I saw a few people do that on here, and if that is the only way to do it, I probably will.
That said, would like even more if I could avoid any sticky stuff with the tape and front feet. :tea:

As said in the first post, I like how it looks and it gives me a forward mounting point for roof lights that a 3/4 or 1/2 rack wouldn't, allowing me to keep the lights lower.

Got my ladder installed tonight during DR testing...in lieu of a second person to hold the ladder in position, I drafted a set of Snap-On wheel chocks. They were the right weight to pull the ladder down to where it needed to be. I also propped a small sturdy cardboard box behind the lift gate so I'd have enough room to sneak my hands in to tighten the set screws.

I recently ordered one, to carry 21 foot long surf skis (a type of very narrow, fast and light kayak.) The adjustable cross bars will allow me to have my kayak saddles 7 feet or so apart, for better support on the boats. Gobi is making the Stealth rack that I ordered the same height all the way around, no rise up front, so my boats will be level on the rack. Will post pics when it arrives. No doubt I will refer to instructions on this thread when I do the install.

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to post up this top shelf write up. I have wanted a GOBI rack even before I bought a 4Runner and one day (once I sell all of my non-essential organs on the black market) I would like to own one. Reading this thread and looking at the install was a good way to cultivate even more envy for yours, but I'm a patient man.

I had this exact same thought about the Gobi--requesting it be the same height all around. Glad you proved it's possible! Looking forward to seeing it when you get it.
