Another day to tinker with my 4 runner again!
So i though i had a bad dash cam. turns out battery connector was not seated propely SMHWTF
So the new one goes up front behind my big @ss mirror so i cant see it. then the old one goes?? what to do? lets use it and make a rear facing dash cam that records everytime i start my car in a circular loop.
start with the 12v cigarette adapter to USB cord. since i am going to hardwire it in and leave my 12v socket empty in the rear so i can still use it if i ever find a need for it. i took the USB adapter apart and soldered wires to it.
note:
-middle pin at the tip of every 12v adapter is positive just in case you didnt know that. and the ones on the side of the adapter is negative.
this is a picture of it apart and kinda what to expect when you open it.
here are the wires to the 12v socket from the rear. red goes to positive and black is going to negative. you see a solder bead on the connection? try and do that for a secure solid connection that you will not have to ever worry about.
you will need to take off the trim piece that goes from left to right near the trunk latch. 5 screws hold it on
this cover comes off. also the round looking hook thingy. comes off in a strange way. look at the pictures and you will get a idea on how it comes off

after you take the 5 screws out and pull the trim panel off. you have one screw here

this panel on the right comes off.
pop this cover off the bolt to expose a 10mm bolt

after all these panels are off and loosened. you can pull back on the panel a little to reach in and unplug the connector at the 12v socket. run the wire up to the top dome light. then get creative on how you can mount your specific camera.
