Well, I haven't updated my build thread in quite a while. Time for some updates!
I hit a deer, so I decided it was time for a new bumper. It was built in just 2 days buy a local welder. He did an excellent job, very happy with it. Oh yeah, and I grabbed a cheap set of 35s from a friend. I'll run these for a bit, then probably grab a fresh set of KO2s again. Had to do a bit of bashing for them to clear, for now. Hopefully after all this work, I'll be able to get 5*+ of caster and not have to do any more cutting!
I created a harness for the light bar to plug directly into the fog light circuit. No need for an extra switch!
It was also time to replace a bunch of stuff on the front end. It had a really hard summer.
- Steering Rack (old one was leaking) + tie rod ends
- Wheel bearing assemblies on both sides, including inner seals
- Top plates
- Total Chaos spindle gussets
- Total Chaos cam gussets
- Moog Cam Bolts (ugh, gunna try them again...)
I decided to weld my spindle gussets myself. After completely disassembling them (and wrecking 1 ABS sensor in the process), I wire wheeled them and flappy-disc'd the areas that were to be welded. I then preheated the spindles with a tiger torch, and welded in stitches. I allowed the spindle to cool for about 20 minutes between stitches. I preheated every time before welding.
I pulled apart my LCAs and discovered the Moog cam bolts had some serious damage. Apparently, the sleeve on the forward bolt was riding within the oval holes used for alignment and wrecked the sleeve. They also caused some damage to the oval holes, which I was able to easily repair. Since I was going to use Moog bolts again, I decided to shorten the sleeves to match the length of the LCA bushings. I spoke on the phone to a Moog technical expert, and he was baffled as to why the sleeve was longer than the bushing itself.

New KYB top plates installed. I have a feeling the ones that I put in originally were not properly assembled. Whoops!
Putting it all back together...
So, the truck is currently at Toyota getting an alignment. I instructed them to go for as much caster as possible. I'll update tomorrow!
