Do I Have Any Options???

So I went to pick up some lunch real quick today, and noticed something getting out of my truck. Looks like the edge of the driver's side door has been rubbed upside a wall. Now, the only other people that ever drive my truck is when I take it to the dealership for service. My wife never drives it or anyone else. Just me. And believe me, I would know if I opened my door upside a wall. I'm not careless about stuff like that and I park further out in parking lots, that sort of thing.

So is there anything that I can do about this knowing it was the dealership where I got it serviced (just took it in for my 15k service)? Or am I just SOL?

Do they park vehicles next to walls at that dealership?
Most damage comes from opening the door into the post style lifts...

Ask the dealer as soon as possible, but good luck, you'll need it.
 
You are SOL

If you've left the dealership you are SOL. No shop would take responsibility for something like that after you leave the lot. It looks like you're hitting the door against an edge repeatedly. It doesn't look like a one-time scrape from the photo. All the dings and chips are within a few inches. It varies in height, maybe from parking on a slope next to a low wall. Who knows? Suggest you get a door edge guard until you figure it out.

with that said I would still call and calmly express your concerns, who knows you might get the service manager in a good mood.

I wold get touch up paint and then get the clear protectors (Mine came with the toyoguard package)
 
Yeah, I figured that was the case unfortunately. Guess I know to double/triple check everything now before I leave. I know it came from them somehow. There is no way I would have done that accidentally and not known. Bummer. Can't really trust anyone nowadays with anything.
 
I'd hold to the saying "you get more flies with honey than with vinegar", go to the SM (only), and make your case very nicely.

"I understand these things can happen ... we all get busy ..." yada.

See what happens, nothing to lose. Don't set your expectations too high - after all they get blamed for all kinds of shit every day. Much they cause, some they don't.

I sure as hell would NOT want a door repaint.

Well, obviously I don't want it fixed incorrectly. But how else would they fix it without re-painting the door?
 
I bet they opened your door into the the post of one of their 2 post lifts. If you look at their lifts, I bet you will see a bunch of marks on the lift post from them opening doors into it.

Even if they did take responsibility, and agreed to fix that, how would they fix it? I wouldn't want them or their contracted bodyshop trying to repaint the door, and possibly blending the surrounding areas.

If it were me, I would save the hassle and just get some Dr. Colorchip touch up paint, and fix it myself. A few good coats would make it almost undetectable. I have used it before, and the color match is perfect, and the kit comes with a solution that allows you to remove the excess touch up paint that gets on the surrounding areas, so it doesn't end up looking like a crappy blob touch up job.

If it were me, I'd touch it up carefully with touch-up paint, and then put the 3M clear door edge guard over that. Should make it pretty inconspicuous.

I would NOT have them paint the door. But, that's just me!
 
Since it's just on a small part of the edge, just get touch up paint and fix it. You have white, which is great as it will be much harder to see the touch ups than with a metallic color. Then get door guards. I agree with [MENTION=51186]philsey[/MENTION], you don't want them repainting you entire door just to fix this. It's not worth it.

Edit, [MENTION=120065]BlacknTan[/MENTION] just beat me to saying the exact same thing.

Thanks guys. Understand now Philsy what you're saying now. I will get some touch up then. Hopefully switching jobs soon anyway, so won't be going back to that dealer anymore.
 
Service Consultant: "Oh my! We are so sorry! Yes we'll fix it, no problem"......YA RIGHT!!

Xpel clear bra may have protected the door from the damage. Looks like a job for some touch up paint. Forget about painting the door, you'd have to repaint the whole side of the car to match the paint.


....been there man, it sucks. I wish you luck with it.
 
They won't do squat.

That is why I do not NOT take my vehicle into a dealership for any reason and if I have to I make the service writer inspect the vehicle thoroughly and note ANY damage (which my vehicles don't have).

They hate that but I have been screwed over prior on a really expensive vehicle that came home with a huge door ding. Not playing that game anymore.

IF I have to leave it there, you are noting any all damage and the mileage. My vehicle is not your mechanics lunch go-getter.
 
Mine had color matched door guard strips on those parts of all 4 doors. Probably dealer installed. Maybe ask about a set of those? Even if you have to buy them they can't be very expensive, and they would cover that damage at the same time.

I did the same, ordered a set of color matched OEM door edge guards from the big a. I only got two for the front doors, didn't see a set for the back, I assumed that the fender flares covered most.
 
Well, finally got some Dr color chip and fixed it best I could. Nobody else would notice but me and fellow OCDers. Thanks for the advice.
