Do I Have Fog Lights?

My front bumper has round lights next to the blinker that always came on with the running lights. There is no rocker switch to the left or on the turn signal stack for fogs.

Are these just a running light? I just installed a Shrockworks front bumper and tried to use the wiring from them to a running light but there is no power there with a test light.

Any clues? I know the lights I got work because I powered them and they come right on. I did read something about DRL's using PWM signals that may not read on a dmm or test light but not sure if these are fog, running, or DRL's.

Check the stalk on the left of the steering wheel. You should have a rotating switch for your fogs. Yes, it sounds like you have fogs.

No, I have a 2000 2wd with the switch on the stack, this one has nothing for a switch. I did check the relay center and all slots are full.

interesting...i had an 00 4wd limited and didn't realize they were different. My 98 had the switch.

I've only had this a short time but I'm pretty sure they were always on when the headlights were on and went off when the high beams came on.

That's why I thought they might be DRL that have a PWM signal.

Not until next week, wife is out of town with the truck.

But the turn signal stock does not have a second ring to turn, just headlights. My 2000 has the other type with the ring so I know the difference.

DRL’s are part of the headlights and are not wired from the factory into any other light. The fact that the lights in the bumper turn off when the high beams come on indicates that they are fog lights or at least function the same as fog lights. It’s possible a previous owner added the fog lights to the prewired fog light connectors, added the necessary fuse, then figured out a way to send power to the fog light signal wire without the switch (or added a switch somewhere else that you haven’t found yet.)

It will forever remain a mystery

I spoke to the previous (original) owner and in fact they always were on with the low beams like I noticed. Nothing has ever been replaced or modified. It has the relay, fuse and lights in the bumper but no switch.

I verified both powers to the relay and jumped power from the relay terminals and the wiring and lights work fine. It is not receiving a ground to activate the relay..... because there is no switch to turn them on! Whatever, lol. They have been wired to my ad on fuse box as a marker/running light.

Moving on now.

I've never seen a dog plug in before...

96-98 are not prewired for fog lights. 99-00 base models are hit or miss on fog light pre wiring.
