Yes, yes... I know they have the power to pull you over if need be but you can appeal it in court.
A good example of this was my dad was making a left turn into a double yellow margin. The police officer who gave him a ticket said he had violated the double yellow. There was no sign that said you could not make a left turn.
When my dad brought it to court, the CHP officer was a no show so it was repealed and the fines were lifted.
My point is, a police officer usually will not pull you over for something as simple as to write your plate down if they can't see it from afar. The only reason they write your plate down is if they suspect you of wrongdoing.
If they can't catch your plate... you get no trouble. That's my point.

Alright, what I'm trying to say in the last 2 paragraphs is if the officer is not able to record your plate number under the suspection of wrongdoing... he cannot reference you in the future if you're suspected again.
I don't know what else to say. It seems everybody thinks the police are some other species that can't be decieved.
Every little precaution such as making your plate hard as **ck to read from afar, helps you avoid stupid fines and such.

Bosmob, I can name quite a few people I know that were pulled over on motorcycles simply because their plates couldn't be read clearly. I get what your buddy's idea was but he's probably drawing more attention to himself than anything else.

I get what you mean how it can attract attention, but most likely the people you know got pulled over because they were on motorcyles also.
Motorcyclists and Police never seem to get along in my opinion...

Are you saying he made a left out of a drive into the center turn lane? Or are you saying he pulled into the center lane that was double yellow on both sides to make a left? Not sure how the law is there in San Diego...but here in AZ both of those are illegal.
There are plenty of laws on the books that don't have signage to tell you what they are...but they can still cite you for them. It didn't get dropped due to no sognage...it was because the cop was a no-show.
Do you have a sign on your garage door to remind you to open it before you pull in?

He pulled out of a drive into the center double yellow lane. In California it is okay to cross a double yellow if turning into a drive or coming out of a drive except if there is a sign.
The officer was a no-show because he knew we would argue that there was no sign that indicated you could not make a left turn.
Several weeks after this incident, a Right Turn Only sign was added.
Haha, I do not have a sign reminding me to open my garage at home. I'm sure some drivers in California would probably need it though. It's a wonder how they got their license's.
I've had bad experiences with Arizona police though...
