Do You Think I'm Asking Too Much?

So I have to ask why your son doesn't get the 4runner to go to college? Or are autos not allowed for freshmen?

It is very nice and clean, the Tundra rims always make a 3rd gen look great.

You may be able to get that price in CA, OR, or WA, with time, but don't be surprised if they want to beat you down on the price. I'd post a engine pic as well, for the serious buyers.

My buddy's dad still has a 93 Yukon GT that has about 88,000 miles on it and is running well. Good old TBI. MPGs though rival most exotic sports cars.

NO particular reason. He is going to college away from home which i'm paying for and it will be one less thing to worry about as well as one less expense. He will be living on campus and everything is within walking distance or riding his bike. I'll probably just end up keeping it unless a high dollar person comes along. I'll just use it as my beater.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I personally would never buy a 2wd 4Runner. But for some it meets their needs.

I will probably put 2k miles a year on the 4runner if kept.

If it makes you feel any better, that's more miles annually, than I've been putting on my 4Runner.

I would check on insurance on the jeep before selling... just saying

My stepmom sold insurance and when I was 16 it was cheaper to get a gt mustang than a jeep with a 4 cyl. And jeeps suck!

Some may not like it but it was told to me from an agent I had in the past. I dont' put the kids on my insurance. I put both my kids as living with my parents and not in my household. I have never told my insurance company the fact that I have had kids. Bottom line is anyone driving my vehicle is covered under my insurance including my kids have all documentation sent to my parents. Am I being completely honest no but do i carry proper insurance on my vehicles yes.

I have no idea the value in AZ and I DON'T mean KBB because to me that is worthless manure when it comes to 4Runners they are dead wrong.
BUT sadly that doesn't stop the banks from going by it.

BUT in my area which is NC I know you can not find any decent 4Runner 2X or 4X that is worth a damn for anything less than $7K for a 2X and $8K++ for a 4X and those are rare at that price.
When I was looking for mine a couple years ago I saw NOTHING under $8,000 that I would own and most of those were rode hard and put away wet.

I am most likely going to be selling mine within a year or so and plan to sell it for not a penny under $8,000 with about 172,000 miles.
Its in excellent condition, 02' sport 4X4, so $9,000 might be a tad much for a 2WD but ya never know.

I think $8,000 for mine would be a steal in my area.

The funny thing is most people live and die by kbb. Thats for lending institutes only. If you followed pattern all vehicles would end up be worth 0 Dollars. NOt only that but lending institutes don't even loan on vehicles this old and this many miles so why it exist i don't know. If you look in my cl photos i have that 87 gmc appraised at 24000 but if there was a kbb it would probably 2000. Honestly if someone is trying to finance a 12 year old vehicle they should probably evaluate their finances. Oh well, its only been posted today and I have already had many inquiries. nothing hard but it at least tells me people are interested in these vehicles. I'll post if i sell and for how much

What did you pay for it originally?

5700 but that was the deal of the century,,dude needed money bad and the 2 precious people that came to see made deals with him at 7400 and 7200 but couldn't produce cash. So not only did he have a sour taste in his mouth I was waving cash in his face but was willing to walk if I didn't get it for what I wanted. I felt bad for getting it so low. This was almost 2 years ago.

I wouldn't feel guilty about paying $5,700, after all it is 2WD.

I have a feeling that anyone who is OK with paying a premium (like your asking price) for a 2WD is the same person that values the economical benefits of 2WD. In our case the economical benefits are no longer there with the lift and over sized tires. Maybe returning it to stock would be a better option if you are serious about selling. I will say it looks like a really clean rig.

I am only chiming in because I'm always looking on craigslist for 4Runners, especially now since a family member is in the market for one soon (3rd gen). I always tend to find some decent deals here in AZ, but they do go fast. I'm usually only focused on the 6k and under, but I do see plenty of clean trucks come and go. I'm also only focused on 4x4's and would have to say you're asking way too high for 2wd. I've seen a few nice molded 4x4s up from 7-9k but they've been up for months on end now. The price your asking relates more to 4x4 Tacoma's which are usually higher than similar 4Runners.
Granted, it is your truck, you can ask whatever you want, but I really see nobody buying that for over 5 or 6k most.. unless they think they can profit with it down in Mexico, but again 4x4 is the big thing. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I respect everyones opinion but there isn't a 02 in my area in stock shape as clean as this for 6k. Then you add on the mods.

You will never ever see your money back on mods, and 9 times out of 10 they will actually lower the value of your vehicle on the open market. Most buyers want a stock vehicle. Tasteful and welldone mods can raise the value of your truck to specific buyers who value those particular mods, but good luck finding that one other guy in Arizona with a hard-on for super clean lifted 2wd 4Runners.

5700 but that was the deal of the century

Here's your problem - you're thinking this is the deal of the century, when I think you overpaid in the first place. Maybe it was worth 5700 to you, but you've apparently got vastly different priorities than most people shopping 15 year old 4Runners.

You've got an entire forum full of guys who know these trucks well, and they're telling you that you're going to have a lot of trouble selling at the price you've got that truck listed at - I dunno why you came around asking for advice if you don't want to listen to it.

I just bought my 01 for $7k. It's clean, 4x4, everything works and is bone stock. Tires were old, was due for a timing belt and had a small leak in the RR seal. After getting all that taken care of I spent close to $2200 (still bone stock).

If you aren't afraid to keep it then you aren't asking too much for a clean 2x4. If you really want to sell it then you will have to come down on the price.

How much always depends on the buyer but let me say this. After looking at a few $5k priced 4Runners (all 4x4's) and seeing stuff like missing radios, crappy paint, no working A/C, needing a lot of maintenance, couldn't get one out of 4x4 low, I quickly decided it would be worth my while to invest in a higher price range and only look at clean models.

That said my wife wants me to sell my 93 MR2. Personally I don't want to sell it but I have 5 vehicles at my house and could use the room, a little less in insurance payments, and the money to go back into savings after just buying the 4Runner. I told her I would only sell it for $5k. That's on the high side for a non-turbo MR2 but that is the only price I would accept to give up my MR2. I still haven't run the ad and my wife keeps telling me I just don't want to sell it. I keep telling her that's true but that's what it would be worth to me after all the work and love I have put in the MR2. So if you are just in a state of denial (like me) then your 4Runner is worth your asking price.

OP, despite what everyone is saying, there is a market for 2wd trucks (although much smaller than the 4wd market). I don't ever need 4wd, so I see it as something that (i) costs extra and (ii) can break. And I don't have a teenage son, but if I did, I certainly wouldn't put him in a 4wd vehicle so he can pile all his friends inside and go get stuck somewhere.

That said, I do think $9K is a little high. You don't get your money back for the mods, so if you really want to sell, I'd put it back to stock and sell the mods separately. If you don't mind keeping it, stick with $9K and accept any offer over $7,500. It'll just take a while to find that offer since the market's smaller.

Also, sweet truck - I'd keep it.

For reference I just bought an 02 SR5 sport edition 4x4 with 85K for $9000 at a dealership. Granted its been in MI its entire life and has the standard under-body rust for this area but otherwise very very clean.

Thank you Jacob, Forums are funny especially when it comes to custom cars. Everyone disagrees when its not like theirs. Its their way to justify their stuff is better. But there is a market for 2wd 4runner. 90 percent of all cars in arizona never see 4wd. Its also here, there are many people who put sliders on their 4runners for absolutely no reason other than looks. I've never disagreed that my truck is priced high or extremely high. People act as if i'm in a need to sell it. I don't. It is going to sit on cl's at a high price to see what happens. I have had many texts about it and have a guy coming tonight to look at it. Its craigslist so i'm sure he'll flake. But the point is, after all the negative comments which were uncalled for on here, it is getting a lot of attention. But i'm sure all the negative people will say the new buyer was an idiot. I have bought and sold over 10 cars in the last two years all custom and I've only lost money on one. ANd it wasn't that much and I honestly don't think i'll lose on this one either.
I'd keep cause I do think its a cool looking truck. But i'm getting older and these things are very uncomfortable and gearing in the rear sucks for these bigger tires. So for me to keep it, I would have to do more modding and I don't like it that much to do all that.
As I said before I'll post how much I sale it for and I'll be completely honest. I think it will be for a lot more than waht some people expect.

I don't think any of the comments were negative (as in 'what in the ^#$@ are you thinking?', and we agree it's a very nice truck) but just realistic opinions from people who, as was pointed out above, know a little about these vehicles, what they sell for, what adds value and what doesn't, and so forth (I've had six 4Runners in the last 19 years - 2 bought new, a 95 and an 01). And you did post originally asking what we thought (unless you were just fishing for a potential buyer?). I hope you get what you're asking, but the consensus seems to be that you're asking quite a bit more than it's likely to bring. Now that doesn't mean you won't get it - there are a lot of uninformed buyers who don't know what the market for a particular product is (here's a local 04 4WD with less miles for $1000 less: 04 Toyota 4Runner SR5 - Runs great!). But if the buyer has to finance it (and I'm guessing most people who can amass $9000 to pay cash are probably going to do their homework before spending it) he'll have to come up with a healthy down-payment (like 30%) or the bank will balk.

Lol.. That would suck having parents who don't support 4wd.. ;) being as this is a off road forum..... Ya dig?
