Do you think THEY are on T4R.org?

My kids (12, 9, and 4 year olds) get excited when they spot a 5th Gen T4R. They embarrass me when they wave at the other driver and I have to ask them to stop.
I have seen more T4R 5th Gen here in the Houston area recently. Mostly BP. That motivated me to update my vehicle with the ideas I get from this forum so that mine stand out a little. But I haven't seen one that is lifted or modded besides tlflow around Houston. In my neighborhood, my kids and I have seen tlflow's TE.

This is exactly how I felt when I first purchase my 350z. We would give each other the "look" and nod and check out what mods each other had done. Don't really planning on putting a lot of mods on mine other than some cosmetics (vent covers, exterior lightings) and intake/exhaust (still waiting for Borla to release theirs for the '11). Guess I'll need to get the t4r.org sticker on mine to be recongized.

I live in northern ky and work in cincinnati. I have only been a member since the beginning of the year. In my area I have only seen one modded 4th gen, I see a lot of lifted 3rd gens, the good ol boys luv em, but they r usually pretty beat and rusty. See quite a few 5th gens, all but one was stock. Saw a nice silver 5th gen at wally world with mudders on it. I am guessing they are not on this forum beacuse I was parked in the fire lane with flashers on and T4R stickers, and they paid no attn. I think the tires were a dealer add on. I assume the 4th gen 4runner i saw was traveling. I would guess it prolly had 35"s on it, and was black, and a chick was driving it. I also saw an older lady driving a 4th gen with a leveling or maybe a 2.5/1.5 kit on it. Im sure it was purchased used, with the kit already on it. But my eyes are always peeled looking for modded runners. I am thinking I am one of the few in my area

What do these T4R.org stickers look like? If they weren't too big, I'd likely put one on (if I could do it subtly, like on the rear side window).
I bought one of these months ago in anticipation of buying my new T4R, but she looks so good I can't bring myself to put a sticker on her yet...

i live in a small town of ~1200 people where i know for certain that there's only one other 5G 4Runner—an SR5... and i coached him pre-purchase!

I seem to see a 5th Gen every few days (aside from the ones at work which i park near daily). Sure enough, right after reading this thread I parked next to an SR5 at the local school track.
No stubby. Must not be a member!
I'm definitely on the look out for 5th Gens and have seen at least one other 5th Gen driver eye-ing my ride as we passed each other. With the only external mod I've done being the stubby and mud guards, I'm not sure mine would stick out as a "member" truck on a quick drive by.

But seriously, I saw several Limiteds in San Diego this weekend while on vacation, mostly driven by women. I saw one guy with a metallic grey TE headed south on I-5 one morning by Camp Pendleton with black wheels, no T4R sticker though. Anyone know who he is?

Not true!! I'm not a big fan of the stubby or haven't found anything I like. I'm fine with the stock one for now. Still shopping around for the best prices in shoes though... and haven't decided on a few other mods... but several things on the way!

Of course! Like I/we said in the original post(s)...we're talking about the stereotyping (or jumping to generalized conclusions) that we may be automatically prone to do when we look at other 4Runners on the road and wonder if they're on this site.
For example - if I see a murdered out and lifted 5th Gen on I-95, I'm getting on the forum and asking who it was, because I will assume they're a member here (even though it's perfectly likely that they aren't).
We're just messing around with stereotypes. Not just the stereotype of "a soccer mom with a blinged out limited isn't on T4R", but also the stereotype that if someone has a badass 5th gen then they MUST be one of us!
I'm hoping that we can start to post some real-world, on-the-road sightings, with a brief story, and (jokingly) tell why we think they are (or are not) on T4R.org. We'll get it wrong sometimes, naturally, but that's part of the fun.
If anything, this thread is showing that a lot of people on here DON'T have lift kits or blacked out chrome or 75-inch tall monster truck tires. They have maybe one or two small mods (stubby antenna, husky mud flaps, Weathertech liners, etc). But that's cool - it not only shows how diverse we are as a group, but how much we like interacting with people with various levels of "modification fever". And how much the "I've done two mods" people (like myself) like gawking at the trucks that DO have added LED lighting and Darth Vader paint jobs!
And that's the whole point of this site, right?:cheers:

I don't see to many around my part of town, I know there's one guy on the forum that lives in the same metro as me, since I have seen pic's of him wheeling the closest orv park to KC.
When I do see 5th's they are mostly Mag Grey, Black, Blizzard Pearl Limiteds mostly driven by guys, what is kind of funny thou when I see FJ's around here they are mostly driven by gals. I have yet to see another TE, but Toyota hasn't offered them to this region. I had to have the dealer go 500 miles away to get my TE. :biggrin2:. I had it in for service in Jan. and my salesman said he had seen another TE but it had out of state plates on it.
So I think I still may be the only TE in Kansas City
, so if anyone in the KC area if you see a Mag Grey TE. pretty good chance that's me.

Like Claff, no one would be able to tell if I was a forum member, other than you catching me checking out your rig. Mine is totally stock. 5th gen sitings around my neck of the woods is still fairly rare, but there are a couple that I'm beginning to see on a fairly frequent basis. I would guess they are not members of the forum, as they seem to have no interest outside of their own vehicle. I passed a silver Limited a few weeks ago and the driver didn't even flinch towards looking at my SR5 (mirror or otherwise), unless he finally noticed after I had completely passed him.

Well, that makes TWO of us - one in Maryland and one in Colorado. Strange!
I remembered why I wasn't going to put the Gamecock sticker on - I already have a metal "Block C" hitch cover, a metal Gamecock license plate frame on it's way, and my vanity license plate says "GAMECOX". I think that pretty much tells the story without adding a sticker...

Was out driving the TE today on a pretty busy street, and passed a white 5th gen Limited. I slowed down a little as I passed it... hoping to make eye contact and give a little wave (like how we do it in the Subaru world...see another WRX/STI and you automatically have the hand waving haha), but it was an older woman who didn't notice me at all.
Something tells me they aren't on this forum! lol. Also saw a black Limited parked today... no sign of any mods or the driver.
I'm not sure I would be "spotted" either... my TE is stock for now and I don't really have any mods planned exterior-wise (except maybe another pair of wheels/tires). Though I haven't seen another TE on the road in Canada .... so at least I feel good about that!

I live in the burbs of Southeast WI. I see mostly stock 4th gens and fifth gens driven by the typical soccer mom type will traveling through richer nieghborhoods than my own. I was beginning to think I was a loner out here when I met a forum member on this site who lives five minutes away from me! Crazy! I never saw him on the road, but through this site we met up and chatted 4Runners for a while one afternoon.

I'll spot you for sure - there are not that may 4Runners around GTA. And I pay attention to all 4Runners. The only TE I saw so far was a silver TE around Winston Churchill & QEW. But didn't see driver, it's went to QEW before I got closer : )

Mmmm.... silver was the colour I wanted the most haha, definitely my favourite on the TE. Ah the grey is growing on my anyways.
I'll keep an eye out for you as well. Don't think I've seen a SINGLE SR5 5th gen on the road yet, they all see to be limiteds.
I'm often going out to my farm near Winston Churchill/Steeles, via the 401, so if you see a grey TE along that route, chances are it's me!

I'm used to being stared at when driving and driving the 4Runner is no different. I don't know if it is the 4Runner being given the eye or is it the absolutely muddy Specialized Stumpy XL 29er hardtail hanging from the rack off the hitch, with all windows down, with avenged sevenfold or alter bridge blasting from the stereo. I see them look inside, craning their necks to find the offending guy but they think he must have ducked down and just left a 48yo guy to drive him around haha. I do look at every 5th gen I see for mods though.
