Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Hi Smee,

Glad that the information I provide helps everyone here, I always love to hear that!!

If you only want the front to be about 2", then the 302's will be fine. If you want more like 2.5" with the front weight installed then you'd need the 314's, but you wouldn't want to put those on until all the front weight is installed. The 302's are 2.5" stock and then will squat down with added weight (just need a new alignment), so those are probably more ideal.

And yeah, you could always add a spacer to both front struts to gain 1/2" of lift height down the road if you want a little boost.

302's aren't due til February. 314's are in stock now.

In the rear, the 505's will be ideal with what you're looking to do. They're in stock right now

Front and rear struts/shocks are in stock

Probably only need the rear 15mm spacer with KDSS. Fronts generally aren't needed in addition to the rear.

Shipping lead time is 1 week for any new order placed right now, plus time for holiday closure.

Nope, I don't think you're missing anything else!!

Thanks for the reply, Mike!

I just put the order in! (order #7811)
Really debated on springing (hah) for the 314's right away but if I'm being honest with myself I don't think the winch and steel skids will happen for a while. Willing to wait until Feb to do the install with the 302's when they're in stock.

Also decided to stick with the teal/yellow, for some reason it has grown on me. :D

So I just placed the order for C4 lo pro, winch, and light bar ~ 150lbs. Next will be coils. 314's in the front to keep the front at 2.5 or higher. Should I keep the 505 in the rear? Or go up to the 325 which is essentially .5 inch more lift just incase the front doesn't drop that much.

I say put on the front weight, change the front coils, then see how the rear sits and adjust it from there.

Thanks for the order!! I ran teal/yellow for quite a few years and never had an issue with it. More people would notice it and ask about it actually!!

The IMS will definitely produce the best ride quality in all conditions compared to the twin tubes, but yes, you could have issues with your climate. You'll just need to prep them properly before installing them with your favorite fluid film or whatever and do regular seasonal upkeep on them.

The IFP that the IMS shocks have is what leads them to handle the rough roads better, plus they're 50% bigger pistons than the twin tubes which gives greater dampening force.

Crikeymike,
Appreciate the prompt response.. I am now looking at the 296 / 599 springs with the IMS 700 / 705 with SPC arms. The Spc arms with 1.5 lift should not have any rubbing on the arms with 275 tires / TRD rims? The comfort valving for the rear shocks should be better with the rapid suspension cycling when encountering rippled pavement? Would the valving be similar to a "flutter stack" ? Future plans for the rig would only consist of full 1/4 aluminum skids and steel sliders. I don't think I would loose more than a 1/2" of height? As I'm looking at doing arms, would it make sense going with long travel? I would be looking at brake lines, bump stops, and rear sway bar links? I then would not have the comfort valving.. Too many decisions lol... I am very grateful of any advise you can provide.
How is your stock on these?

Correct, the arms shouldn't rub, but tires can vary so much by brand and type that there's no way to guarantee it.

Comfort valving is intended to support the weight of an empty vehicle, and ride as soft/comfortably as possible, compared to being firmer with the standard valved shocks. If it's a light truck, go with the softer shocks. If you carry constant weight of 200lbs or more, go with the 701's.

Lightweight skids barely affect lift height and sliders don't.

You can't do long travel in the rear unless you get the V long travel coils (3" minimum lift) and then all the other parts. Up front you can get the LT struts, but those just sold out, looking at 2 months.

The parts you're looking at look to be in stock right now.

Excited to receive and install my MRA suspension! I have seen a few different variations of where to mount the front reservoirs. With that long line from the shock to the resi, it is interesting to ensure no rub or getting in the way of anything else.

I would love to see where you all mounted yours that allows for clearance and to have the adjustable nobs reachable.

Thx!

i'm running wheelers 1.5" springs with 12% increase rate over stock...now that i've added rear storage its got some noticeable sag. so C59-327 are what i'm thinking. just wondering if you would happen to know how they relate to the wheelers springs. i'm also considering buy those 327's and using them only for long trips IE baja mexico in a few months for 8 days.

front is 2.5" with kings.

If they'd show the full specs of the coils, then I could help make a comparison.

The 327's specs are all in the first post, but they're 271LBF/IN rate and stock is like 190 or so, so it's a pretty big jump. The regular rate Dobinsons are 220 which is a pretty comfortable rate on an empty setup. OME uses like 260-270 or so for all their rear coils. I guess Wheelers must be like 210-220 or somewhere like that.

The 327's are definitely super common with the rear weight you're adding and for trips, etc.

You can use the C59-300 with the GS59-574 for ~3", or the C59-314 with GS59-700 for 3".

Whenever the GS59-574 are used with aftermarket UCA's, a diff drop kit should be added because the CV's bind at full down travel without it. You don't need a diff drop kit with the GS59-700's, although at 3" of lift, it helps reduce the CV angle and helps the life of them and the boots.

I am getting ready to make my order. Before we talked about 302 for me but I was debating on a front low pro bumper but I'm not going to get the bumper. To get 3"/2" without a bumper should I go with the 300 front? Or will the 300's settle to 2.75"? Going with 574 shocks and rear 325/705.
I guess I am just second guessing the front height since the shocks are set at one height. Would the IMS be worth it so I have some adjustability?

Going to get JBA UCA and diff drop kit.

other questions was, has anyone needed extended brake lines with this size lift?

Thanks!

3" front is typically 300 coils with 574 struts. Some end up with 2.75" and some with 3". All these 4runners have slight variances. The 302 coils are 1/2" taller, so empty it would be 3.25-3.5" on the 574 struts.

The option of being able to set and tune the height with the IMS is pretty great, but it does come at an additional cost, although you'll also get better performance from the IFP in the IMS, and bigger piston size, so it's a beneficial upgrade in more ways than one.

No, you won't need to change the brake lines.

Crikeymike, we have a 2019 Lexus GX460 that we want to lift 2-2.5" that will be seeing mild-medium offroad use. It will remain mostly stock with potentially adding aluminum skids and sliders in the near future. It will also be used to tow a camper trailer with a tongue weight of around 410 lbs.

Can you recommend a good Dobinson suspension setup for the above use cases? Preference would probably be to use a variable rate coil in the rear so the ride is ok when not towing. Thanks in advance!

Hey bud,

Sure thing. The front is easy, C59-350 for 2" with stock weight, and your choice of struts. Or C59-352 for 2.5".

For the rear, the C59-675V can be used on them for about 2.25" of lift, but with no rear weight. That would work, as it's about the same final rate as the standard 2" rear coils. Since they almost all have KDSS here in the states, at a taller rear lift. And since you tow, the *701 shocks so that it's not too loose when you add the trailer.

I'd suggest the KDSS spacer kit offered there in the drop downs if you go that route to make sure it's level left to right.

All the options are broken down on this page here with the lift heights listed before the drop down menus: Dobinsons 1.5-3.5" Lift Kit for Lexus GX460 2010 to 2021 | Exit Offroad

Thanks Crikeymike, do you think C59-675V would be enough in the rear? Given that the trailer is going to be putting 400+ lbs of weight down on that rear axle when attached. Believe it or not supposedly this GX is not equipped with KDSS but Ill have to double check.

Have you towed the trailer with the stock suspension? How did it handle it? IF you have, then it will handle it better with the new coils since they're a stronger spring rate.

If you'll be towing long distances, not just around town here and there, then I'd suggest the C59-327's instead.

The truck will be towing long distances and also towing off road. With the stock suspension the rear was squatting relatively significantly.

Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - lots of choices

@%1; My 2017 Limited Xreas started leaking after our cross country trip so I guess it's time to replace it. I was trying to figure out what setup I should get for my rig and got a little lost. I have an SSO slimline front bumper and winch, hopefully RCI sliders soon, and will eventually be custom fabricating a rear "hybrid" bumper with no swingouts or anything. Hoping to keep it under 100 pounds. We do take it on road trips often and have the back loaded with a couple hundred pounds of stuff and an additional hitch carrier with another 200-300 pounds of stuff. Daily driving it though, it has a stroller and a diaper bag in the back. Don't want to lift past 2.5" but would prefer sitting around 1.5-2". What would you recommend?
