Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

I installed a set of C59-725 rear coils in my '15 TEP yesterday. So far so good. Hard to make much comment on them other than that shipping was very quick, packaging was good enough - it's a box, and they were clearly labeled left/right. I do appreciate the thought given to matching left/right with KDSS so it sits level. I'm not sure if anyone else is doing this.

I replaced OEM coils with air springs. The ride is dramatically better. I'm not a huge fan of internal coil air springs for most use other than heavy loads. Unloaded it makes for a pretty jarring ride on rough terrain. It just makes the combined spring rate really firm. The taller coils with Fox 2.0 rear shocks seem to be a nice combination for ride quality.

I can't say much other than that. Sits pretty level side to side. I prefer roughly the factory rake, so they match pretty well with my front coilovers set to around 2 inches. I can take some measurements after letting them settle and work their way to the final seating on the perches after a few days.

Also FWIW - I removed the wheels and the shocks on one end, but nothing else to fit them into place. I used ratchet straps to compress them. It took about an hour including rotating tires at the same time since I had them off.

Obligatory pics...

I was wondering if it was someone off the forum that ordered those!!

I'm running the same in my 4Runner, with no rear weight. Is yours also light in the back? Or maybe the airbags were to help with towing

Accidently posted this in the Dobinsons TRD Pro thread, instead of here:

Bilstein 6112 (6 clip) and 5100s + C59-599 rear springs

Everything is still settling, but getting 2.5" in the front and about 1.5" in the rear.

I usually have little or no weight in the back. I use the airbags for when I'm loaded with the camping gear and fridge or towing. I don't think I want to put them in the new springs though. I wish I had a better way to add some capacity on demand without ride quality issues unloaded. I ran gx460 rear air suspension for maybe a year and a half, but never really found the right balance of shock dampening so I pulled them out. Still have them. But the coil spring ride is better unloaded. Haven't done anything offroad or hauling with them yet.

hahaha, thanks man. Between the Prado 150, FJ Cruiser, and 4Runner, there are lots of coil choices. I even found a coil that would be like 3/4" lift on the front. haha, but who would want that?

No, no installs here sorry. Just an office and a warehouse. We have lots of people we can suggest though around this area if you need.

Do you have any shop referrals for other parts of the US? In San Diego area, so if you or other members know shops with experience with installing your gear.....:snacker:

There's a bunch of SoCal guys on here that have bought suspension from us. I'll let them chime in with their suggestions.

The majority have done home installs I believe.

Mike at Rock Solid Performance isn't exactly close to San Diego, he's up in San Jacinto, and he has done several of our kits on a few different vehicle types.

Jetboy or anyone else with KDSS, would you mind posting some measurements of rear driver and rear passenger from center of hub to bottom of fender. Just curious how well the springs are addressing or preventing the KDSS lean

Thanks

The Truck Shop in San Diego. Bro had his 4th gen Dobinsons installed there a few months ago.

DirtKing Fabrication has 4runner experience.

Kibbetech also does bolt on installations.

Both shops should be more then qualified to install this type of stuff, both shops build race trucks.

Much appreciated, thanks!

Just as a quick update to installation of C59-725 rear coils in a 2015 TEP with KDSS, I drove it a bit to get things settle into place. Heigh from wheel center to fender edge is just over 24". About 24.25 or so. It's close to level on both sides. I have Fox adjustable coilovers in the front that also affect the rear side to side height. So I need to do just a little bit of fine tuning to get it perfectly level, but it's close. That's not completely empty, but probably around 100lbs of compressor, tools, and recovery gear in my standard set of tools in the back. Otherwise empty.

I put 6 80lb concrete bags in yesterday for a yard project and a full tank of gas. With 480lbs of concrete plus my usual 100lbs or so of other stuff, the measurements were just shy of 23 inches. Advertised spring rate is 228 lbs/in seems pretty accurate compared to actual measurements on my vehicle.

Here's a profile pic to give an idea of empty ride height with the C59-725 springs. For me it's what I wanted.
Edit: For reference the tires are 275/60 20's on Limited wheels - the tires measure 33.1 tall, so just a hair taller than a 285/70/17.

Any word on the rear C59-325 coils being available any sooner than end of November? That's all that's holding me up! LOL

First week of December, unless you want to pay air freight and save a month?

Unfortunately they don't have "fast boats" to bring containers over from Australia, only "fast planes" at a 3-4x upcharge.

I may have skimmed over it but I just don't see it. Wife is in a 2016 sr5 bone stock. It will only ever do fire roads and forest service roads. I'd like to eliminate the nose dive and level it out. Don't necessarily want to lift it. I've just about decided I want to do dobinsons, as All I've seen is good words about these products. So, Mike, can you tell me what parts I would need? I would like to avoid spacer lift as well as lift via 5100s or the like.

Yep, all the options are in post #1

The minimal thing you could do, that we could offer, would be to run the C59-238 front coils on your stock struts to bring up the spring rate, and pick the front up by about 1" of lift.

With you not wanting to lift it, we don't have an option for a stock height heavy load coil.
