Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Bring on the kicking and screaming from those who have already bought..... :yield:

Due to popular demand and an amazing amount of requests, we have brought our most common 4Runner (and Toyota) coils to the US in 2 additional colors. Red and black. Now these part numbers are available (depending on stock) in classic Dobinsons Teal, TRD Red, and/or Black, depending on part number.

C59-300 (Teal, red or black)
C59-302 (Teal, red or black)
C59-314 (Teal, red or black)
C59-599 (Teal, red or black)
C59-505 (Teal, red or black)
C59-325 (Teal, red or black)
C59-327 (Teal, red or black)

C59-675V (Teal or black)
C59-677V (Teal or black)
C59-701V (Teal or black)

Of course, we would prefer to sell the teal for branding reasons, but so many of you this year have asked us for a color choice, so here you go!!

NOTE: the optional colors are not listed in the catalog, and are not sold on Amazon or Ebay. You have to contact me directly and let me know what you want. They're all the same price as usual. As usual, send me an email to [email protected]

Santa came early!

When will the revised front coils for the pro be available? Will they still be offered in red? If I remember correctly they will now be 2” instead of 1”, what will this do to ride/handling on road? Thanks

Still working on it. First will be the 1" lift over Pro height. Those are being tested right now and everything looks to be good with them.

Next we will set up for a 2" lifted coil, but we expect people will need UCA's to run them, as it's 3" over a stock non-TRD coil. I still don't know how people are putting on the Toytec spacer lift with 2" of lift and not running UCA's.

for some reason i thought the 2" was going to replace the 1" for the pro due to demand for more lift. i'm only looking for 1" so this is great news! thank you

This seems like an innovative company with the KDSS Springs offered.

Who is going to offer us 1/2” longer passenger side sway bar links for us guys with other suspension systems who need some kdss leveling? Dobbins would be a good company to step to the plate!! Please.

What would you recommend for 2010 limited? I will be installing hidden winch plate plus winch, no dual battery, pair of in bumper flood lights, total under 90lbs. Will be adding sliders at some point and 3/4 roof rack. I'm getting Bilsteins 5100 and want around 1.5" in front 1" in the rear after the added weight. The truck has over 120k miles. Been off road twice.
Do I even need new springs?

Until you get the roof rack, you probably won't need new coils. And then, it will depend on what the rack weighs and what you plan to put up on that rack.

For the front, just run those shocks on stock coils and see how you like it.

Or if you would like to get an all new suspension, since those stock coils now have 120K miles on them, I'd suggest C59-300 and C59-599.

Got the Dobinsons C59-300 and C59-505 with a full set of Bilstein 5100's all ready to install tonight.

Dobinson Suspension Owners Assistance

Off-Road Premium KDSS model

Would guys who are running either the Dobinson Twin Tube or MRR share your thoughts on your suspension setup?

I was sold on either the King or BP-51 for its ride quality but then a few conversations later I started to hear that maintenance is required more on these than a non-race build.

Mike from Dobinson's suggested I throw a post up here to get help from guys who have run other brands and made the switch to Dobinsons Twin Tube or MRR.

My use:
*Currently Road Driving is 90%
*Road- I drive fast and take corners fast. I used to race motorcycles and so my driving style bleeds over into daily driving.
*Carry Photo Gear (several hundred pounds on any given day) for work and expensive gear so I want to also protect my gear from harsh road impact.
*Long Distance highway driving to get from here to backcountry areas for photography/camping. I want something very off-road worthy for trails, rock climbing potentially (I would use Moab as an example more than rock climbing) but comfortable on the street.
*Tires- 265 or 275 AT.

Weight load will increase over next 6 months to year: Sliders, body armor, dual battery in engine bay, (currently a roof top carrier for additional gear and will swap this out later for a proper roof rack), and again several hundred pounds of photo gear.

TIA-

Doug

After install and alignment I gained 2" on all corners. So very very pleased with the spring and school combo and love the way it looks and rides!!

Mike, will the new "TRD Red" springs be available through Kyle at Treaty Oak Offroad in Houston? Kyle already sold me on your products at the Texas Fall Outdoor Expo, and I am probably going to drive to Houston to get his help with the install.

Out of sheer curiosity... Do you have pictures of these mounted up, and which ones did you go with?

I am seriously considering this setup come bonus time...

Doug,

I am in a very similar situation, and I am also curious. After riding in Kyle's GX with the MRRs, I really want to go that route. However, budget may dictate waiting a few years on those.

I don't like the idea of having to rebuild the MRRs every year (I put 30,000 to 50,000 miles a year on my Natalia), but they ride so nice.

In 2018 I plan on doing:

  • dual battery
  • RCI Aluminum Skids
  • SSO Sliders
  • New Lo-Profile drawer/table system
  • AND some better lighting.

On top of my current 75lb storage system; we typically carry 100-200lbs of medications and lung treatments for my wife, one 65lb dog, one 70lb (and growing) kid, 150lbs of camera and electronics, 85-115lbs of food/water/whiskey, AND whatever else we "need" for whatever adventure we are on.

The biggest difference/help for me currently is that I use AirLift Airbags on my OEM rear springs to help with a heavy load or towing while still giving me a good ride when unloaded because it still has to be my daily driver and fit in my garage when empty.

Cheers!
-Mark

hey Mark! Kyle w/ TOO here

I know it doesn't help on your 4Runner but here's a GX with red coils I put together a few weeks ago.

It sounds like you guys are going to have a MINIMUM of 400lbs of added weight in the rear. Going with a heavy rear spring sounds like it might be beneficial to both of you.

The MRR sure is nice, i've really enjoyed having it. I have KDSS on my GX as well, the combination is bad to the bone. Corners are very flat and controlled, day to day ride is great, and the off road performance has been very good. You won't get a better value for an adjustable coilover setup. 10/10

Come bonus time, I am going to be hitting you up!

Cheers!

Biggest problem is when I am unloaded (daily commute is 30 miles each way). That is why I really like having the airbags. Inflated when I am loaded up, minimum pressure the rest of the time.

If I recall our conversation on IG, I think you said we could go with the lighter spring and still keep the airbags. Does that still hold true?

Absolutely.

If you're going to run full time with the weight use the heavy spring.

If it's going to be weighted down a small percentage of the time, helper air bags with medium springs will preserve the nice ride while in DD mode

Sweet! I sent you a message on FB. We are working on getting things ready for March...

Thanks to Mike for helping get my 4Runner set up. I chose the C59-300 and C59-599 springs with Dobinsons shocks/struts. The height gain was a little more than the estimate from Dobinsons - but it worked out perfectly. Still a slight rake like I wanted. Similar to the ARB set up on my 2006 using medium springs. The nose dive is gone and it rides firm, but not harsh at all. This amount of lift keeps things simple - stock UCAs, easy on the CV joints and no stress on the brake lines. I Installed it over a weekend and didn’t need a spring compressor for the rear. The pictures show the truck with new stock size Cooper AT3s and RCI sliders (makes it look higher).
