Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Dobinsons Mike are you suggesting I don't need a SW relocate kit to install 302/700s? Or is that just the case for the taller front struts?

Also, what are your thoughts on a bump extended rear bump stops?

Yes, it shouldn't be needed. I'm not sure how the other guy has a clearance issue when his struts have a taller coil seat. No one else has had this issue, which is why I asked about the orientation of the installation of them.

Extended rear bumps are generally only needed if you've added LT rear shocks and need to restrict the up-travel. Or some add higher quality bumps, like Timbren, if they run heavy and bottom out the suspension often.

That's really odd, there shouldn't be any contact. Which orientation are the struts installed? The lower notch where the coil sits should be facing rearward on both sides. (5th gens face rearward, 4th gens face forward)

We do have a sway bar drop bracket kit, but they forgot to include the radiator support brackets, so we don't have them listed online for now. Still waiting for those extra parts to arrive.

The notch is facing forward. But I should clarify the the bar is just barely contacting the bottom two coils during certain movement of the suspension and/or truck body lean. I can see very slight rub marks on the bottom two coils. At rest the bar is not contacting the coils at all. Maybe I will switch them around when I do my upper control arms.

Thanks Mike.
I'll hold off on ordering till i get my lift on.

Dobinsons Mike any word on when UCAs will restock? Trying to plan my budget accordingly haha. Thanks!

Any problem with them facing forward on a 5th gen? I put them that way on mine because there were a couple small scratches on my sweet red 59-300 coils and by rotating them I could hide the scratches. I knew stock it was opposite but I could not see the harm in putting them forward. Nothing appears to be hitting anything.

Do i have to take apart my front end to fix this? Or could I just put on a set of spring compressors and rotate them that way, assuming I have to. What about a quarter turn rotation so the ends are facing in?

There really "shouldn't be" any issues with them facing forwards, as long as nothing makes contact with it. The only thing that possibly could is the sway bar. KDSS vehicles don't have to worry about this, since it's in a completely different spot.

I'd suggest doing a flex test on the front end to make sure nothing can contact the bottom of the coil seat. If it's clear, you can leave it. If not, you can take the left side and put it on the right, and vice versa. No compressors necessary, just need to move the full assemblies.

Just wanted to post a quick real world application where I feel this suspension really helped out.

I went to get some coffee and a hot chocolate for my son the other day after making a dump run. Had to put my two large coffees (one for my wife and I) on top of my gobi rack to unlock the truck and get my son into his set and buckled.

Got back into my car without grabbing the coffees and off I went. As soon as started from the 1st stop sign I realized what had happened but had to go about a block over some bumps before I could stop and grab them.

Was expecting coffee to spill all over my windshield as I stopped but I opened my door, grabbed my two coffees and off I went. :) Nothing spilled and I got to enjoy my hot coffee.

hahaa, nice. So what you're saying is you avoided a fight with your wife for spilling her coffee all over your car? hahhahaa

I made a wooden ramp and did a flex test. Gap between sway bar and shock never changed. So I guess I’m good. Thanks for great customer service.

I still cant decide what I want...

What would be the recommendation for this "planned" setup (thinking 3in lift):
2018 TRD OffRoad
Rear Drawers
Roof Tent (from time to time)
Trailer (from time to time)
285s
Dual front batteries
Hidden front winch or C4Fab slim line bumper (maybe)

Ive though about running rear airbags for the use of the tent/trailer to keep the coil strength down.

Mike would be best to respond... But my guess would be 700/314 and 701/325 or 327s...

I wanted a similar lift and went with 574/300 (no weight up front yet) and 701/327... which are actually out for delivery at the moment!

Here's my suggestion.

3" front and 2" rear would be ideal, keeping some rake in the rear for loading up and towing.

3.0/2.0"
C59-302 with GS59-574
C59-327 with GS59-701
UCA59-002K UCA's
DD59-527K diff drop kit

Wouldn't need airbags with this, and this is assuming rear drawers stay in always, keeping about 200LBS constant rear load, and you'll probably have some rack on there to hold the tent too. Only reason you "might" need airbags is if the towing tongue weight is pretty high

Saved! Thanks Mike!

Any need for extended brake lines?

Just to confirm, coils such as the C59-302 will NOT fit on TRD Pro shocks, correct? Thanks. Looking for a 2" lift option without running spacers or swapping the suspension

Mike, just wanted to thank you for your help! Installed the 300/599 coils with 5100s. Super fast shipping!

Went on a ~1000 mile road trip this weekend. Very pleased with the ride quality!

Upper control arms next!

Trd pro

Looking at swapping out my suspension to go to a 3in lift. Will the regular 4Runner 3in lift work with the pro? I don’t think their is anything different between the regular 4Runner and the pro.
