Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

I've been looking around for some feedback on the IMS kit. Has it not shipped at all yet? Or are they just between orders?
I am currently running the OME Nitrocharger 3" but since the addition of lots of steel and junk I don't have a lot of lift left. I also have about 40K on the set up so not sure I want put money into adding new coils.

I know a few folks here have them. I think Sundy is one of them.

I do have the IMS, overall they've been great! They are a little bit stiffer than a nitro shock would be, so with an empty rear end it is on the firm end for city driving. These really show their power on the highway and offroading!

I can eat up bumps and have yet to feel a bone jarring hit or even a bump stop (I'm sure I've hit them, these just do a great job).

I'd happily purchase these again - if I had the extra cash I would consider the MRA (I was debating the MRA for the additional fine tuning but just bought a house)

I'm hoping these can go a LONG TIME before needing a rebuild, as I run almost 30k a year. The OEM style bushings were a big selling point too.

I've been planning to get a review written, was waiting until I hit 4k/5k. I've got just over 3k and should hit the 5k soon (roadtrip from CO to MN) so I'll try to get it done when im at the lake if there's a rain day!

Super happy with the setup

ah, man I almost went 705s. Your rig was definitely inspiration. I decided on 701s because I do a trip to Canada(from Florida) once an year and I'm loaded down with 2 dogs, a baby, a wife, and all the required luggage/gear to maintain those things. I'll also be towing a boat occasionally. For some reason I felt I'd be better off on the highway with 701s. Probably bogus though, idk. I wish I could just try both.

Ahh don't worry about it! If I could switch to 701s I would due to the weight I carry in the back. I think youll still be happy with the set up! Don't forget to share pics once its all installed!

Thanks for the feedback. I have a full steel bumper so I need something stiffer than what I have. I considered the MRA as well but I doubt I would actually utilize the adjustments. Truth be told I am a little overwhelmed with all the spring choices too. I look at the savings between the IMS and MRA and think that is a good chunk of some new tires. My Toyo RTs have over 40K on them and are showing it.

Check this site out, makes it a little easier to assemble the parts you'd like!

I'll let Crikeymike confirm, but if you want to maintain a 3" front lift you'll likely want the 574 shocks (extended travel) with the C314s or C352 coils (352's have a higher rate on them, but with a full steel might be worth it). For the back probably the 327 coils and the 701 shocks - unless you want to go extended travel, then grab some variable rate coils (thinking 677V).

I don't know your exact weights, just ballparking based on parts you have in your sig. This link is great for figuring out all the goodies. Dobinsons 1" to 3.5" Build-A-Kit Toyota 4Runner 2010-20 | Exit Offroad

I got the twin tube set up with the 2.5 inch front springs and the 2 inch rear springs. How long does it take for the suspension to settle? It feels extremely stiff. I've got about 500 miles on it already, and i noticed the front suspension dropped about a quarter inch, but no changes to the rear.

I also noticed how much better it rides when i have it fully loaded with 5 people vs when i'm driving alone. When i'm alone, i feel like the road is tossing me around

Assuming youre using the 302 coils? I have those and I'd say it took maybe around 700-800 miles but I did push mine hard offroad in the first 1000 miles. Was a bit stiff at first but love it now.

What tires and pressure are you running? That might help too. I'm running 33 E-load M/Ts at 37-38psi.

EDIT: Just checked the past pages and found you're running the same front set up as me (also have 705s in the rear but with 725 offset coils). Has your first 500 miles been just on road?

I agree, there is nothing like the desert to put things in their place :)

Finally posting having installed last month. Love how it drives compared to my previous setup (6112/5160). Should have gone this route out the gate.

- Dobinsons IMS Front Struts & Rear Shocks
- Dobinsons C59-300/C59-599 Springs
- SPC UCA

Didn't take any pre/post measurements unfortunately.

1st pic: 6112/5160 (1in preload in front and stock rear springs) and 265 Falken AT3Ws

2nd pic: Dobinsons setup listed above, SPC UCAs, and 265 Falken AT3Ws

3rd pic: Dobinsons setup listed above, SPC UCAs and 285 BFG KO2s

Thanks Mike for talking me through the options and providing good instructions on how to do this myself. The KDSS steps you provided actually helped get rid of lean that I had my previous 6112/5160 setup.

Nice!!! Those comparison photos are really cool, that was a good idea to take those.

Running 275/70/17 K02's, sitting around 37-38 PSI as well.
Have not offroaded besides 1 beach trip.

Will give it another couple hundred miles to get a good feel. I have a third row and a steel roof rack that should helping weigh down the back a bit

Hey Mike,

I’m interested in your UCA, here’s my set up:
Wheels: 18x9, 0mm offset, 5”back spacing
Tires: 285/65r18

Would your UCA work for this set up?

Thanks!

Crikeymike So I'm trying to see if my possible set up is on the right track. I'm currently running 5100's front and rear with stock coils and I'm looking to purchase front and rear bumpers very soon. I know I need to upgrade my coils before doing so. After reading through this thread I'm thinking of going with 314's in front and 329's in the rear. I have a 2016/non kdss, I haven't seen to many people with this exact set-up so I'm wondering if I'm on the right track and what else I may need or if you have any other suggestions. Thanks
