So, got some bad news a couple weeks ago.

The Auto Body Hobby Shop on base is closing for good. Which blows.

I had my 996 Stored there, and was planning on doing most of the work there, seeing as how I'm in good with everyone there. They have TIG, MIG, Torches, shears, benders, metal, ect ect.

I HAD to get my body out of there Wednesday.


Went up there, tried to lift it with my straps I had. They just had too much damn give. Finally figured out how to get the damn thing up, but lifting the front and then the back.

Went to get the Trailer put under it, and realized that the 996 was 1 damn inch too wide to fit between the fender wells. YES. ONE. DAMN. INCH.

So, pulled the trailer out from under the body, and cut the fenderwells off, for right now. going to mod them and put them back on at some point.

Anyway, here's the 996 ont he trailer. Truck BARELY squats. Sits level as hell. Trailer pulls straight as a damn arrow.

Got some stuff to do to get the body where I want it on the trailer, but I think it's going to be pretty BA when it's finally set on there right.

Brother that's terrible news. I already know the one on 29 is going down too. Looks like next year or the year after. I don't know why they are shutting those down though when it saves marines/sailors so much money! For some it's the only way they have a car and for others it just helps keep ptsd/boredom/alcoholism at bay. I'm actually moving today into a new house that has a two car garage for once.

As for your project I'm glad the trailer works for ya. Hopefully you can get some time with one of the 3rd shop a-frames to lift your body off again lol. It looks great though doc.

It really doesn't make much sense at all. You're absoutely right. I can't tell you the times I was having issues with my PTSD, and went up there for a few hours and worked some metal into something I wanted and felt a million times better.

As far as lifting the body off again, I plan on putting 4 "trailer jacks" on each corner so that way if I need a flat bed for hauling stuff, I can just lift the camper part off of it and be good to go. Just need to find some that are big enough to do it.

got the GF a pretty decent camera, so hopefully I'll be able to get some good pics of the body, and start designing it to make it what I want.

I might wait until I get it set up on the trailer the right way first though.

Some of those on bed campers have Jacks that would go that tall....not sure where they get them though. You might be able to score some as repair parts and then mod them to your ambulance.
