Documentation request - 2003 V8 - 4WD Operation

I have read several threads on 4WD actuator issues and have found loads of information. Unfortunately, all documentation I've found relates to the V6, which has a 2H option, different wiring harnesses, additional switches, etc. So I can't accurately test my V8, which is stuck in 4L but the ECU doesn't think it's in 4L.

I tried reviving an older thread, http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3024475-post10.html but no love.

Does anyone have access to V8 docs they're willing to post? I would appreciate it greatly!

If you're just looking for how to operate the 4wd system, the instructions should be on the driver's sunvisor.

If you're looking foe something else you need to be more specific.

I do not have any documentation, but I ran into an issue with my 2003 V8 two years ago with the actuator getting stuck in 4 low. The vehicle would allow me to lock the center diff, but it would not allow me to enter 4 HI. I purchased the vehicle second hand and was not expecting an almost $1500 repair off the top. But it had to be done. You're correct, there's very little information on this issue. I'm sure there is a share of folks who have had the issue, but not everyone decides to drop their transfer case, crack it open, and start moving things around to replace the actuator. I searched google and T4R which concluded that the task was beyond my experience, ability, and tools. I ended up taking it to a local shop that I trusted and had them install my new actuator. They allowed me to order my own part and did the service. If I can remember, the part was roughly $800-900 dollars and the labor was $500-600.

Some of information you'll find is to bang on the external box of the actuator with a rubber mallet, open it up and clean/dislodge the gunked grease, or keep trying by driving/reversing and try again. None of what was suggested worked for me leading me to ultimately bite the bullet or else I had a none usable vehicle in my driveway.

If you search hard enough,I do remember that there was a write up somewhere online on how to replace with actuator. Unfortunately I did not bookmark it.

GL!
