Does anyone else hear a clicking type noise after reversing and switching to drive?

This is something I never really noticed until I had music turned all the way down. Reversing out of my driveway and then switching to drive I can hear a click of some sort that sounds like it's coming from behind the dash. It only does it after I've driven a few feet...if I reverse and then put it in drive and sit it doesn't make the noise; if I go straight from park to drive it doesn't make the noise. Tough to explain it, but logically I would assume it is a mechanical noise, but I swear it sounds like it's near the steering column.

I may be crazy though

I can't find a thread to provide more detail, but I believe it's just a relay under the dash and is completely normal.

I've heard that. I thought it happens if I go straight from park to drive, too, but I haven't paid attention. Basically it happens in the first few feet of driving forward after starting the car and releasing the brake. It sounds like one of the brake solenoids.

The only two times I had this exact symptom was after getting an alignment done and the control arm bolts weren't torqued to spec. I torqued them myself and the noise went away.

Was it upper or lower arm? I have this noise too but it more of a clanking sound usually when going from reverse to forward or vice versa. I only hear it once. I never hear it at speed or going over bumps or turning. It's so weird. I'll have to re check the arm bolts tomorrow.

I have the same noise. I just thought it was my pads and rotor combo. I use slotted rotors. Maybe it's the transfer case chain of something else.

I've always wondered about that sound, it happens only the first time I go from park to drive and start moving. I had assumed it was the steering wheel lock disengaging

Clicking from which area behind the dash? Can you record it? Is it a mechanical sounding click or electronic? My ECU is loud as hell in the glove box area.

That's what I thought when he said "clicking" but the dash part threw me off.

Usually it's the rear pads shifting in the holders. The fronts don't do it as much because of the fixed caliper design not letting them have that much movement. Could also be the driveshaft But under the dash? I don't know what you're talking about there.

That's the exact symptom that I had. It was the lower arm. I torqued all 4 lower bolts, I think 100ft-lbs iirc.

I wanted to provide an update. I torqued the lower control arm bolts that tighten the alignment cams as recommended and the nose is fine away!! I'm a happy camper.

I should have suspected this since I had an alignment done before the noise started happening. This is why don't like taking my cars anywhere for service....

i think mine stop making clicking noise when i grease the drive shaft, it pushes the transfer case, i did both front and back.
