Does this mean Supercharger?

Hmmm, sweet! Even sweater if it's a TRD supercharger. Believe Toyota did make a supercharger for the V8.

Surprised this guy didn't mention it in the AD besides the picture. May be a sales technique to get people to call.

I doubt you could fit a turbo without A LOT of modification. There just isn't enough room to squeeze a turbo in the bay witha v8

So there IS a supercharger for the V8?

There WAS a supercharger for the 2UZ-FE offered by Toyota for the Tundra, that could be adapted to the 4Runner engine. TRD Discontinued this unit and I believe I have heard that URD (correct me if I am wrong) has a unit for the V8 as well as another company.

Highly doubtful! From looking at the gauge...it’s probably a TRD supercharger for the 03-04 V8.

the OP asked what else would you have a boost gauge for? you would have one for turbos.

it could be just as possible as a supercharger, guess you arent familiar with rear mount turbos? theyre reletively cheap and super easy to install on nearly every vehicle.

Re:

I'm just going on what we can all see. It says TRD on the Boost gauge. There WAS a supercharger for the 03-04 4runner. The 4runner we are looking at is a 2003. Nobody on T4r.Org has ever piped up saying "I put a turbo on the 4runner" so I'm not going to think for one second just because you can find some no name turbo that can be installed on anything that we are looking at one now just because it "could be done"

And yes URD makes a supercharger for the 2005-2009 V6 4runner.

STS is far from a "no name" turbo and theyre very popular in the domestic truck world. i dont see why everyone in the Toyota world is so obsessed with TRD super chargers honestly. sure i'd love to have one, but as "rare" as they areand having to buy used and rebuild it dont justify the gains you see with one. other than the cool factor of having a factory optioned supercharger.

Re:

Never heard of STS or anyone using them on 4runners. My knowledge on superchargers and turbos stops at 4runner application and what has been discussed. The hype with the supercharger was if the dealer installed it, it would be covered with the 4runner.

I hate TRD and it won't have any place on my 4runner. I feel like a bas**** child having a v8 4runner when it comes to TRD.

do a little research on the STS turbo kits and you will forget all about that TRD supercharger. their kit managed to increase power from 122 rwhp to 302rwhp and 340rwtq in a 3.4 v6 with a mere 9# of boost.

they make universal kits for any application and they also have bolt on kits for Tacoma's that come with everything you need minus tuning. kits start around $1800 and can run up to $3,000 its a little pricey but 10x the power increase of the TRD supercharger.

imagine what it could do for your v8?

But with a turbo you have the dreaded turbo lag, you don't get that on supercharger I have had a few turbo'd cars an 85 Merkur XR4Ti as well as Honda Civic that had an aftermarket turbo on it. In my opinion the supercharger has power now the turbo needs to be spun up so you don't get the power right from the get go.

...let me introduce you too Clownmeat's 3rd gen. Its the 3.4 but it has a rmt. He even built a custom snorkel for it and paddle shifters! One of the most impressive builds on this site, hands down!! :hatsoff:

RE: Casper

Casper421, I stand corrected. I should really get over to the 3rd Gen forums and take a peek. In my defense which I did not state, I was thinking of only 4th Gens.

You will find tons of 3rd gens with s/c's and a few with turbos but theyre trying to squeek out as much power from the 3.4's as possible. Thats not the case with the 4.0's, theres already plenty of power.

The 3rd gen guys do some amazing things with their 4runners!

May be for towing purposes... Some guys put one to guesstimate the engine load.

What numbers were acheived with the trd supercharger on the V8?
