Does this sound like a good deal? Lightly used 2014 Trail Premium

I'm looking at a silver 2014 trail premium at a dealer out of state. No KDSS, but it has what appears to be a 3" lift and Bilsteins on it with BFG AT KO's (hard to see from pics but I assume 265 or 275s). 4200 miles on it. Guy bought it, put the lift on, then decided he wanted a Sequoia.

The internet price was $37K. I called and they'd do $35,700 with no haggling at all. I know rates are near 3% for a used vehicle, and you can get new 2014s, if you can find them, at 0% for 36 months. I'd definitely put a similar lift and tires on one if I got it, and I like the BFG tires, so it's nice that all that stuff is done. Sounds like MSRP on the sticker was $39,800. Seem like a good deal?

I do not know; I paid $38.1k for my 2015 TEP w/KDSS, but you said they will come down to $35.7k. That does not seem bad for a slightly used 2014, but I am not the expert.

My only advice would be check the lift out good, make sure it is a quality install and you are not buying someone else's problem.

If $35.7k is your limit, I would rather get a new SR5, then save up and throw the mods on; how much are the SR5's where you are at?

Dude, I paid about the same for my 15 TEP w/KDSS, wheel locks and WeatherTechs after working on them. I went with Classic Silver, but the blue is a really nice color combo as well. Great buy.

That's a decent price, as long as the equipment is good stuff. I was eyeballing an SR5 that had upgraded skids, and a 3" lift before it was sold out from under me on the lot. They had it advertised similarly ($37Kish), but they ultimately sold it to a woman on the finance team for MUCH less I am sure. I did talk numbers with my salesman before it was spoken for though, and he said there was a lot of room in there. The truck had 8K on the clock, and was a local trade for an FJ TRD. My guess is that they did something similar for the guy that traded on the Sequoia, so I'd argue there's at least $5K there from where they took it in. They'll want a couple thousand for the overhead and profit, but I'll bet you could stretch that number a bit more yet... I'd go aggressive and offer $34.5K and see what they say. Tell them you have travel expenses to offset, and that you'd need to know the work done to the truck. If they can go for it, they will... How much is the flight and fuel back? Add all that stuff together -- along with what you value your time at -- and tell them a number of how much it's going to cost you in out of pocket and opportunity expenses. That'll give you the leverage you need.

I think this makes a lot of sense. I like the TEP, I don't care for KDSS, I like the silver, and I want to do a small lift with decent tires anyway so this one fits a lot of the things I'm looking for and probably saves a couple grand with the lift (as long as it's a decent lift). Obviously if I could find a decent price on a new 2014 without KDSS and get the 0% financing for 36 months that would be great, but there aren't many around. If I can get a bit more aggressive and get them to go for it then it might be worth it.

For some reason I really like the darker interior trim, hood scoop, and softex interior color on the trail premium, so if I do this it would likely be a Trail Premium. With only 4k on it and the tires, as long as the lift isn't complete garbage I actually like the fact that it's already on and would likely save me a couple grand on lift and tires. Throw on a nice tint job, maybe darken the TE rims with plastidip or a new set of rims and spacers and I'll be all set......for about a month til my next mod bug bites haha.

At the end of the day, your satisfaction is what really counts; on the face of it, it does not sound like a bad deal at all, not like you are getting ripped off. If you did purchase it, I do not think anyone could ever say "dude, you got ripped!"

If this thing meets your desires, I see no reason not to purchase it. Any actual price value difference will be talking a few hundred dollars anyway, so it is not like the discussion is centered over thousands of dollars or something.

I could not manage to get any thing more out of them, I was actually out of town on work and saw it on the Internet for sale at the local dealer, so I grabbed it and traded my other car in. I did get some gift certificates though thrown into the deal.

I live in Miami, and good luck getting anything like a TEP down here. I wanted blue and saw it advertised, I grabbed it the first day it was advertised, it was not even delivered to the dealer yet.

Sounds like a familiar tune. I worked on the dealer hard over the phone on the new 4Runner while traveling for work. Then once I got them to agree to the price I wanted, I had to work on them again on the trade. In the end, I got the value I wanted out of my trade, got a slick deal on the new TEP with the KDSS I wanted, and got some small nice to haves on top. To be honest, I was worried some other lurker was going to beat me to the chase -- seeing as its MN and we don't get that many trails without special ordering one...

But you REALLY must have been worried. That's gotta be the only trail in the state.

IDK, hard to say without knowing the lift.
3" spacer lift and $900 BFG...not worth doing it over to me.
coilovers and tires....getting sweeter

I generally buy bone stock w/low miles and mod to my taste.
I don't trust but a few people to turn a wrench on my rigs.
It may cost a bit more to go new
but tires and lift might be $3k...not even 10% of cost of rig

I would at least look at it

I guess things have changed quite a bit in the last few weeks. I see they're now offering some discounts on the 2015's and 0% financing, so that makes me start to consider just getting a new one if I can find one locally. I'll check to see what lift is on the one in Ohio. If it's a decent lift and they'll come down another $1000 or so then it would make sense to me. I think I'd spend almost $35,000 on it if the lift is decent. If they can't get me the information on the lift, or put me in contact with the previous owner (he bought another car at the dealership so they definitely should be able to give me some contact info for him), or budge on price then I'll pass.

I called the dealer and they were able to get more information from the previous owner. The tires are 265/70/17 TA KO's (smaller than I thought) and the lift is a 2.5" OME with 2883 springs in front and 2895's in the rear. I like OME stuff but would have thought they'd at least have 275s on it.
