Went offroading, and like always there is a new sounds lol. The Inner tie rods and outter tie rods are duralast and they arent new. They have a good amount of miles on them. And could you help me confirm that its them ?

When i was off roading yesterday, it feels like something has play under me. Especially when turning left or right very sharply.

Also was thinking of doing the steering guide upgrade.

You don't verify if they are bad by listening. Grab the OTRE near the boot and move it back and forth. If you feel any movement they are bad. If not movement then put a bar in there and use it with some leverage to feel movement.

For the ITRE its easier to feel the movement if you disconnect the OTRE from the spindle. Then grab the tie rod end pushing it in and out of the rack. If you feel movement the ITRE is bad.

I went through 3 ITRE's within months and some offroad trips. Moog, Duralast and some cheap NAPA. I then bought one new OEM because it was bent and installed my old 200k miles OEM ITRE. So far they are both still solid. I would go OEM on both.

what else could cause a pop/slap noise when jerking the wheel left to right and right to left?

i have ne OEM LBJ and my UCA are in good shape. uni ball!

could it be steering guide? I have have the old stile nut on it according to a write up

Exactly what JayRolla said. My guess from experience is it's the ITRE. The best way to check is to put it up on a rack with your steering wheel locked (isolate the steering rack) and move your wheels from side to side. You'll know right away what it is.

Only go OEM on the ITRE/OTRE. You can order from dakata trading for the best price. I think they ship from UAE. No time to wait then use a stateside dealer such as toyota of dallas etc.

Steering column loose and needs tac welded? Is the popping coming from left or the right side?

It's got hose good new bushings.

It pops when you jerk it to left or jerk it right. Like pop slap noise. It was doing when I was going over bumps to kinda. Again, new OEM LBJ. UCA are good. Only old things are ITR , OTTR... and the steering colum guide thing is old. The outdated one....

More info on this ?

You mentioned nothing regarding the health of your LCA bushings. Have you looked at them? I'm starting to learn these bushings start to show their age at around the 200,000 mile mark but I guess it all depends how hard the truck has been driven. A truck with little off-roading may never need a replacement but rigs that are off-roaded a lot might see a failure of these much sooner.

Not the bushings on the rack, but the steering shaft can loosen up, cause a popping.

I would inspect the old parts.

they look solid, but im not 100% sure. Arent those like a ***** to do

dude the price of a oem ITR !!!!!

i got a rear diff bearing rebuild kit for price of one ITR!

LCA bushings are a pain but doable. The ITR's are rediculous. Its why I didnt go OEM and ended up losing out more in the end. Should have just went OEM. Some members have gotten them cheaper from this website.

You must request the part and price. They send you back the quote and you order. Shipping takes forever but I believe members got them under $80 each.

Do the OEM ITREs have any stamping on them? Moog ITREs are Sankei 555s, which are of good quality and have a lifetime warranty. Not necessary to go with OEM in this application, IMO.

The Sankei 555 being high quality has been very questioned on this site. The price of them may be high but quality not so much. I bought Moog that had Sankei on them. It loosened up fast. Comparing the two the OEM had a lot more droop in its design. I believe the non OEM's pull out of the socket at droop when wheeling. Again I had three failures in less than 10k miles and my 280k miled OEM I put back in is still solid.

What's a good to see if LCA bushing are bad.

Pretty much like anything else. Put a crow bar inbetween the bushing and the mount to see if the bushing has lots of play.

Mine where so bad I could actually move the control arm back and forth with just my hand.

Maybe MarkamisPrime could help you out better since he was able to diagnose this for a dude visiting our area from Colorado. I think he had the dude drive slow and hit the brakes while he was watching the front end for movement. If you have a GoPro camera, you could figure out a place to mount it securely aimed at the LCA and then go driving to see if you record any slop in the LCA bushings.

**Edit, I think JayRolla technique sounds easier and better than mine but maybe Mark will chime in since he has a fair amount of experience doing front end work.

That does work also. You can also lift the rig up on all 4 jack stands. Put the truck in gear and hit the brakes. You will see the movement at the LCA near the bushing.
