Does this Toyota VIN database show your rear diff?

Might be another way to verify what diff we have, since it can be kindof nebulous.

you can check out your door sticker and figure out what you should have. but yea somebody could have swapped things out and did a great job or screwed the pooch.
 
I've never seen that page before, that's cool.

Said mine is 4.1's but I already knew that. I thought for sure it'd mentioned the dealer installed supercharger but it doesn't. Hmm.
 
Yeah, I am aware of how to decode the door sticker, but mine still gave three possible options based on the available data. I later did the wheel-spin test and discovered I had 4.1s, and out of curiosity tried this site after somebody mentioned their gears were on the dealer sticker.
 
I'm going to go with no. well yes, but not accurately, so no.

my 2000 sport "highlander", (never have I ever actually called it that...but it's what folks on here drool about), does NOT have a RR Diff lock, however the VIN on the toyota owners website says it does. And trust me, knowing the original owner and having verified it never got a swap, confirms my VIN never had an oem locker....however the website says it should.

The toyota owners website is great for checking service records RECORDED AT A DEALERSHIP, but that's about it.
 
I put my VIN in, and it correctly showed the rear locker, but incorrectly showed the wheels and tire size. It didn't show the axle ratio at all. Looks like this site is as reliable as the door sticker---not very.
 
I didnt have any luck with the diffs for my '01 on the Toyota site, but the LC Engineering site shows mine came with 3.58(?!) gears. It came with 225/15 tires, so maybe that's the case. I guess taller tires aren't in my future!

Not sure about LC Engineering. My door sticker says A04A which they claim are 4.56 gears, but I thought all '99 limited 4x4s came with 4.30 gears. I've never actually jacked up my tire and counted rotations so I could be wrong but I'd be very surprised (actually I'd be pretty stoked) if I had 4.56 gears.

Your right. A04A is 4.30. I thought the same looking on the lc engineering site but I pulled my 3rd out to reseal it and check it out for the whine I have and it is definitely 4.30.

Everything I found gave 3 options for my code:
3.91s with 15s, 4.1s, or optional 4.3s. My sticker shows 15s, but my vehicle came with 16s which could have been a simple dealer option or the sticker was just generic. And, there is no way to determine 4.3s vs 4.1s from any identification.

Ok, what is your code? You definitely do not have A04A on a 2002.

Didn't say I had A04A.

Like I did say, however, I had already looked up my A03A (in addition to RZN185L-GKPGKA) and saw the three different possible options, from which I confirmed one through the spin test. Just thought the website might have been useful to some, since its information matched what I'd empirically verified, but I guess not. *shrug*
 
As a general rule of thumb, and something I have not yet seen fail

A02A 3.91

A03A 4.1

A04A 4.3

A05A 4.56

Axle code is found on the front driver door jamb sticker
3 is the most common, 4 has the locker and 5 I have only seen with the 4cyl.(I did not mention 2 because it is just too embarrassing ) And of course if you are going to replace a diff, always do the spin test.
 
Interesting! Lots of folks seem to look at the codes as "usually" correct, but apparently have seen enough mismatches to be skeptical. But, if it really is that cut and dry, then easy day.
 
Per the Toyota website my 1999/SR5 has chrome bumpers, steel wheels and heated mirrors--non of which it has. Did not see an entry for differential.
