Dog Breed Info - Aussies

Oh man, I hate to jinx it, but I'm not sure I've ever been around a more perfect puppy in my life. She's calm, she minds very well and she's doing fantastic with her crate training. She gets up once in the night, goes right outside and does her business, comes right back in and goes back to sleep. She yips about once or twice as I'm headed up the stairs back to bed, but that's it, then she sleeps until you get her out of bed, 6:30 or so.

She has also gotten to the point where she loves her kennel and will go in it, even when we are home and she's with us. When she gets tired, she just heads right in.

I know things can change, but as of right now, it appears we got a great one! She is just the sweetest thing!

Wow! You must have gotten a good one! Sounds like she's adjusting perfectly. I also see you're making her a Husker girl :) I love when they lay like that! Back legs stretched as far as they go. So sweet!
 
Oh and I just noticed her Kong. Alex LOVES his Kong. I have two different kinds. One like this that I stuff and another that has a hole in it. Both great toys that keep them busy :)

I have some of the stuff you squeeze into it and it keeps her interest for a few minutes, but it's not her favorite toy, she seems to like the stuffed toys with gangling legs that she can chew on and shake.

And yes, like our kids, she has no choice but to be a Husker!

When I went to school at UNL, I lived down on 10th street, right across from the stadium, so we had a ton of tailgaters and walkers that would go in front of our house on gameday. So, we would let my Husky, Norm, out front in a Husker T-Shirt and he freaking LOVED it. Hundreds of people walking by him talking to him and patting his head. He was in heaven! Good memories.
 
Yeah, Alex takes those and rips them apart in seconds.. he's after that darn squeaker.
I've only been able to find one stuffed toy that's indestructible for him, but it's not his favorite since it's not that soft and squishy.

What a great memory with Norm. Those are the stories that make up truly love that breed and have a special place in our hearts for them. We go down to Morrill Hall all the time. Love that place!
 
Man, I haven't been to Morrill hall since college, I had some class in there. I've started and finished a few 1/2 marathons by it and walked by it a million times in college, but haven't actually taken the tour since 4th grade.

I'm in KC now, so it'd be a hike to take the kids.
 
I know. I still love doing that kind of stuff. Dumb to some :) Just learned about Pioneer Park in Lincoln too. Another one of my favorites!

Your kids would LOVE both places, I'm sure. Maybe a trip back to Lincoln is in hand :)
 
What a great dog. We just put our dog down last Friday. Not positive on the breed, but we think she was a mixture of Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, and Labrador. Made it to about 14-1/2 before her legs started failing her and couldn't walk more than 3 steps without collapsing. Broke my heart to see her like that, especially remembering how active and energetic she was for the majority of her life. She didn't slow down until she got to be about 12, and even then she'd still leap around like a maniac whenever I got the leash out.

Your dog sounds a lot like ours when we first got her at about 6 months old. She ended up being the sweetest, smartest, biggest-hearted dog I've ever come across. I hope she brings you as much joy as ours did. Congrats on the addition to your family.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Sounds like your girl was a lot like my last husky and I had to make the same tough decision that you did. It broke my heart at the time, but I know in my heart I did the right thing and you did too.
 
Aw! She's getting bigger... slowly :) She still looks like a little fluff ball. I bet she's so soft!
Is she still doing really well with potty training and all?
 
Oh man, she's so soft! Just the sweetest puppy I've ever been around. She already knows how to sit and shake and minds extremely well. Potty training is going well, but she's still at the point where if you aren't paying attention to her, she might go in the house. But she will go to the door or the stairs and whine a bit first, but you have to be paying attention.

Overall she is basically perfect!
