Dog window guard

Hey everyone I'm on the search for what might be a pipe dream. Is there any type of net (ideally Kevlar ) that I can place over the back window that will keep my pup in and people out on hot summer days?

I'm not talking hours unsupervised just 30 minutes or so. The usual gas and rest stop breaks for those animal lovers who are concerned

Or any other solutions, I need ideas

We have two Akitas and they either come out of the car with us or we leave them in the car with the a/c blowing full blast....take your spare key and lock it up. I wouldn't leave them in a hot car any longer than I would sit in a hot car....period.

You could roll down the back window and make something to wedge into it, id make it less than a foot long though.

You could cut a hoisting net to fit over the rear window. I'm not sure how you'd affix it around the window in such a way that would keep people out, however. I use velcro around my window to hold a mosquito net up when I camp, but obviously that can be removed very easily.

Check out Raingler nets - I purchased 3 for the interior of my 4Runner. I do believe that this is the 3rd Gen 1/2 Cargo Net option. Works great so far. I added a whole bunch of footman's loops to anchor it all down to my platform - even more have been added since this picture was taken.

3300km round trip and the nets worked fantastic - cargo basket secured by a large 8x4 net (I believe those are the dimensions...) and the cargo stayed in place between people and the dogs.

Not to mention the rear window was down a large portion of the trip giving our pups fresh air to sniff. They stayed put and had a large portion of the back all to themselves.

Happy with the product and the function of my set up. Minor adjustments were initially needed but that's the ebb and flow of every project.

Really a nice install. How did you affix the netting to the top rear corners?

ETA: I went to the site and saw what they have there. Pretty nice setup. Was that a good, solid system, shouldbeasy? Is that all you needed to use?

My version was to use the straps attached to the net already (it had those pull straps on the 4 corners) combined with the footman's loops anchored by #8 and #10 self taping metal screws.

For the back I had to take the rear plastic panels out, pick out the location at the top of the vehicle that could take the self tapers and then cut away some of the plastic. It's worked very well and doesn't even show much.

The top mounts for the nets (specifically the human and cargo nets) is anchored by footman's loops over top the headliner and in to the roof support. Location wise I lucked out as these ridges for roof support were very much in line with the nets I had already installed. As my equipment securing adapted to the different / heavier items I was loading I added more and more footman's loops for additional security.

I'll throw up some pictures soon of my 'complete' set up with all of the mounting spots.

Missing something

The reason I keep my 3rd gen 4 runner is my dogs love to go everywhere I go. They only ride in the cargo area and I always roll the window down for them. Since they were pups I trained them to sit and stay and leave people alone. I roll the back window down according to the situation. I live in Az so the summer months they stay home unless I don't leave the vehicle for anything more than a gas stop. If I leave for awhile then I roll the window down just enough so they can get air and stick their head out but not jump out at a cat or coyote. Both dogs (american bulldogs and german shepard) are extremely althetic and can be very unsettling to a common passer by. I always figured that all 4 runner owners do the same for their dogs.

Here is 1 of the GS. The AB was to lazy to come that time. Here is 1 of them in 4th gen during their trip to the vet. They are not always perfect (the ab will clear the room or car with a fart) but they r good dogs

I've got a Pomeranian these days, and we bought a dog car seat for him that I strap him into. Works pretty good, sits right behind me while I'm driving. The problem is this dog is batshit crazy and if I try to do anything like lets say order food at a drive thru, he's just clawing at my back window like he's trying to dig a hole to china. Full speed bicycle arm aggressive attacking my nice tint.

Does anybody have any ideas for protecting the back window from such a dog? Ideally something I can just bolt in place over the back window that is see thru-ish, but impervious to the fury of a furball.
