Doing a Head, timing belt, and water pump job. Can somebody double check my parts?

Hey! I am ordering parts for this huge job. Head gaskets (likely replacing a cracked head), water pump, timing belt, etc.

Can somebody make sure that I have all the parts I need? I think I got it down.
Been following the parts that [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] had listed on his series.

Any parts added that I do not need? Anything that I am missing?

Things that I need to add (or should add while I do this job)?

If you are matching your parts to videos like Tim's then you have the parts lists for the projects. I know i am not going to click on some random google drive link.. ;-)

The timing belt job kits like Ebay AirCabins are complete unless something else breaks. Nobody can give you an exact list because sometimes their are variables that are unique to your specific jobs.

The parts list in videos are normally what you need. However, if you have bad vacuum lines etc that need replaced etc. those you need to be added as an example. PCV valve may need changed. It really depends on what all has been done and if maintenance has been completed on the rig before.

That is why they are guides. Like When i did a timing belt job. I had to replace the AC tensioner bolt, pulley bolts because they were never touched and I live in the rust belt. That's not normal but in my case, it was required. Each job is different. I done 4 timing belt jobs on 4 different 5vz-fes and each one was different due to the circumstances.

Glad to see a member tackling these projects though.. I would verify with your vin that you have the latest revisions of the head gaskets for your engine and I would just replace the head bolts with new ones.. Most replace that crankshaft bolt too other reuse them..

Cracked heads stink.


Things to check while apart would probably be your knock sensors and its harness. The wiring been known to really deteriorate and your in there Everything else you mostly replace in the normal projects.

Some people may say replace the injectors but you can get to them fairly easier with the intake plenum off...

A few people may have other things to check and verify..

Is that head gasket kit matched to your VIN? Toyota makes multiple valve grind kits. (Edit: yes it matches, my bad) I like that this kit includes new OEM head bolts too. Is your fan clutch recent? If not, I would replace. Same goes for the fan bracket. Might as well swap it if the harmonic balancer is off.

I looked at the list looks good. You might want to check it against the parts list in the sticky. You have the foam gaskets also which is good. I ve never done the heads on mine so not sure.

list looks good, I would add the cooling hose that goes behind the block as it will be easy to get to now, and it is at least 20 years old

Here's a suggestion. Heater hoses and heater valve. New OEM clamps too. And throttle body coolant hoses as well. The newest 3rd Gen is 23 years old. The ship has sailed on all the original cooling system parts.
