Dome light problem (another one)

98 4runner 3.4 4wd sr5. When the overhead dome light is set to "on" light works great! Super bright, but yet when it is set to "door" and the doors are open, its like its only at 1% light. It will flicker and then go to the lowest output of light I have ever seen. Could this be the switch its self?

Tryed to search, only to find no solution's. If I missed a thread, I am truly sorry.

Try all four doors. If the same for all, it is NOT door contact switches. It COULD be the dome switch, the Body ECU, or the connection between them.

No door switches in the door jam. I replaced both front now. I think they were around 36 each. You will need to pull that trim piece off between the front and rear doors if your replacing a front switch. All those switches do is provide a ground for the bulb when door is open.

I can't recommend that without at least testing them. You can pull the switch and apply ground directly to the wire and see what happens. I find it highly unlikely that all four switches would fail at once. Did you get the truck like this?

Same for the dome light switch. The ground signal is a light green with black stripe. Jump that straight to the bulb end closest to the switch. If light comes on, problem is the switch.

Jeez, people, learn to troubleshoot and not just throw parts at electrical problems.

Here is the wiring. The dome switch goes directly to ground.

Unless there is a problem with a high resistance connection on that green black wire it's the door switches. My toy did exactly what yours does. My rear ones are bad too but hardly ever use the rear doors.
