Dome light switches intermittent

My main and rear dome light switches flicker when I jiggle or move the switch and I have to get it just right to stay on. Holding pressure on the switch seems to help.

1) How do you access the switch after removing the lens cover?
2) What exactly do I need to do to fix the switch, clean or bend the contacts a little?

I'm having the same issue with my main dome light. Not a big issue at this point since I use my map lights most of the time and I hardly use my rear dome light.

sounds like if you can take it apart and clean the contact you will be fine. i think you have to remove the dome light from the roof first before you can take it apart

sorry for bringing back old post , im having the same issue now, what should I use to clean the contact? is it hard to take it off?

Pop the lens part off with non-abrasive prying tool. Then look for the screw holding the housing to the roof. Should only be one screw to remove.

I don't know if cleaning the contacts is going to help/.
Generally with these types of switches the contacts wear out over time and no longer makes a good solid connection anymore. You may need to bend the contacts if you can even gain access to it. I don't' have this problem so haven't had a look at it yet.

On the topic of people that know about dome light wiring, has anyone tried wiring a switch for all interior lights to turn them off so you can work on your car with the doors open all day without running down the battery? Or is there a single fuse you can pull to accomplish the same?

You can pull the dome fuse in the engine bay fuse box. A lot of things are tied to this fuse so you’re going to disable a lot more than just the interior lights. Keyless entry, home link , gauge cluster lights among other things.

Replace your domes and doors with LEDs , they’ll use a lot less power and you could probably leave them on all day without worries.

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, not sure I would want to disable that much. Okay, LED interior lights is moving up on my list of priorities.
