I could total my repair bills on my 2012 L322 S/C and it would be paid off.
And that’s no repeat work, either. Brought it in for a concern, shop fixed, concern went away. New concern for a different issue each time.
The entire SUV is a big fabergé egg, expensive and fragile. Despite having had religious dealer maintenance performed prior to my ownership, never missed a service.

Yes mate they are total rubbish, but the badge sells. They are a very nice place to sit while you wait for a tow, though. I'll give them that. Gorgeous interiors. When they work they are capable vehicles but...
I just had to read the OP.
So not enough power, could be solved easy enough throwing some more money at it for power adders, ultimately a turbo/super charger, or maybe a stroker. Have you looked at chips or reprogramming if you can do it, or if its easy to do.
But you can't fix the interior room aspect.
Ideally, I'd go for a FJ for a wheeler rig, for a family rig and offroading rig its hard to say, Sequoia if you want to stay Toyota. Or what about some of the luxury models in Lexus.
I would stay well away from Landcruisers/rovers.

I get bored with vehicles and have had a lot over my driving years so far at least 70 cars and trucks. I am 57 and just reserved a 22 ORP. Currently in a 2017 gmc sierra all terrain x. I have loved the truck beside the v8 to v4 afm system. Bought a odb plug in (the range) to keep it in v8 mode. Shudders when cold and hits high gear. GM acknowledged issue in 2015 with a service bullitin no recall as they don't have a fix. I have had GM,FORD,DODGE, RAM, NISSAN vehicles and no vehicle has ever been perfect. And if you want a one of a kind that no other person has you better build it yourself. Drove a used SR5 Runner as that was the only 4 runner at the dealer to try. They are popular for a reason old school reliable vehicle. Can't wait to get mine( first Toyota) I am like a kid waiting for Christmas. Good luck with your next vehicle.
