Don't buy from RockAuto.com

people start reading... this is not a problem of he ordered the wrong part, its a problem of they sent the wrong part -sure its incorrectly labeled leading to the assumption that its the correct part, but the OP was sent the wrong part and the company refuses to exchange it, its not like he is asking for a return or he ordered the wrong part...

read the thread before you start posting

Always compare before installing!

so now companies are no longer obligated to have quality control... this is the customers job now...?

id love to see you own a business lol

please be real, think about what you are saying.

I'm not sure what industry you're in but there is never 100% QA in any industry especially online Auto Parts.

It's common sense to compare your parts before installing, bud.

I always check rockauto, but in all these years I have never ordered from them. Amazon, partsgeek.com, zygmunt.com, fcpimport.com, eBay and a few others for special items (shocks.com, wheelers, marlin) have always been better for the 4Runner. Pelicanparts.com is great for BMW stuff.

+1 for Amazon, FCP, and Pelican if you have a BMW. Great prices and service. Durk, what BMW do you have?

. Any time I need to return something is never admit to installing it or doing anything other than inspecting it.

I'm always forthright. I find transparency breeds trust which almost always manifests a better result for me. I quickly learn who to do business with. Reasonable merchants will exchange an incorrectly shipped radiator, installed or not. Not trying to be holier-than-thou, just saying as a practical matter I've found it to be much more effective than shading the truth and such. I'm kind of a mama's boy in this respect, really uncomfortable slinging half truths and bad info regardless of the context. I'm not letting someone make a liar out of me for $100.
Obv, you sometimes run into a dbag merchant with no sense of proportion or common sense. Their reward is this thread warning future customers away.

Youngest son has a '99 323i e36 vert for a college car which I maintain. My 1985 735i e23 died in the hands of another kid in a snowstorm wreck in 2003.

I have an e38 BMW too. FCP and Pelican have been awesome to deal with.

Earlier this year I ordered all four front control arms from FCP. My car was at my buddy's shop on one of his lifts. FCP doesn't have over night shipping. So I called and asked them if they had any other options since the car was sitting in my friends lift. Guy said he'd look into and call me back. Wound up having them to me the next day, no additional shipping charge. I was super impressed with them.

So here is the $10,000 question why did you buy the TYC brand?

When you go to Rockauto you get 8 different radiators, yes one is for a manual, so that leaves 7.

One of which is a Denso, as said before in the Toyota family.

Spectra is a great aftermarket parts maker as well.

Sounds like you need to contact YTC and tell them they screwed up, make it right and send you the correct fitting radiator. If not, tell them to buy you a Denso and trade them.

Rockauto is a just a drop shipper of products made by someone else.

Kind of a bummer for you but a relatively cheap lesson. I bet you'll never install parts without checking fit again! :D We all learn this lesson once or twice or multiple times (in my case :P ) throughout our "careers".

This is prescisely why I try to buy local even if it costs a few bucks more. I bought the Spectra radiator from Autozone and it has a lifetime warranty.

Yeah, I know that lesson. TOO MANY times, and I still find myself getting stuck when I don't follow that one simple rule... check it first! As we say in framing, 'I cut it 3 times and it's still too short!' :dizzy:

That's when you send the new guy to look for the board stretcher, and get a gallon of checkered paint while he's there.

Don't bash rockauto...

So let me get this straight. Had you installed it within the first 30 days and contacted them as they state you should in their company policy, you wouldn't have written this bashing thread?? I see. Hmm.

I have used them for many moons and yes I have had bad parts come to me and they corrected the situation promptly. I once ordered wheel bearing hub that must have been returned and resold to me. When I was installing it I noticed the race had been obviously overheated. They sent me a new one. If you don't plan to install the parts, don't order them so far in advance. How can you complain when their prices are half that of of retail and you get your choice of name brand parts. I guess you could go to autozone but the guys behind the counter are typically idiots and make mistakes all the time. If you want bad advice, ask the parts guy at any of the brick and mortar stores.

Dude, you can't be pissed at them for their policy. It's there because they get ripped off all the time by weaselly customers. They have to draw the line somewhere and 30 days is more than ample time to install a part.

Flame suit has been employed.

Let me get it straight for you as you don't have it straight. According to them, I wouldn't have been able to return it. Why? Because I installed it and then found out there was a clearance issue. Doesn't matter if it was 1 day later or 31 days later. Once I bolted it in, it's mine.

As stated multiple times, the difference was so small that I highly doubt looking at the two parts side by side, anyone would've suspected there was an issue. On top of that, it did fit in that it bolted in. It did not fit in that it didn't clear the hood.

I wrote this bashing thread in hopes that it will help other members avoid the same issue.

I once almost installed a radiator that had one of the tanks put on upside down. Almost didn't catch that one.

I just use worldpac now anyway. Fortunately they still have a few parts for my '75 BMW lol.

I think your are completely wrong. As I read their reply, if you had not installed it after 30 days they probably would have let you exchange it. Had you filled it with coolant within the 30 day period and found it wasn't correct, they would have let you return it. But in your case, you used it and were outside their return period. Here is their return policy.

"Everything we sell is returnable for full part cost credit within 30 days (except certain special order and discontinued items identified in our catalog as "No Return"). If you're not satisfied with something or you just decide you don't need it, you can obtain return instructions using our Order Status & Returns page or by sending e-mail to [email protected] (in your email, please tell us your order number, the part number and the reason for the return). If a part doesn't fit, don't try to "make it fit" and risk damaging the part or your car (or yourself). We won't accept responsibility for any costs exceeding the cost of the part (and you don't need the aggravation of doing a job twice!) so please inspect the part before you start the repair."

It sucks for you but they really are easy to work with and well worth the few days it takes for shipping. In many cases, they used fedex and I have gotten my parts on Saturday.

Sorry if I missed something, but have you tried to contact TYC? Either way, avoid TYC parts like batsh!t. My rear bumper is TYC and the fitment is awful. I've had some corners and lenses from TYC for other cars and they were Taiwan junk too.
