Okay everyone, yes I'm sorry for starting a thread about this but I'm literally going to go crazy. I've looked at every single wheel/tire, build thread, wild card google search, and unfortunate custom offset bro listing that I can find and I just can't find an answer.

What I intend to do is get a toytec ultimate and 1" bl (only if necessary). I will not be doing any crazy flex type wheeling, I just want a good looking T4R that I can take on the beach.

I want to do 305/70s with 16x8s. I've looked into 16x10s but for one thing the options are short and I really don't want to put some heavy steel wheels on just to give myself more obstacles of rubbing to deal with.

So 16x8 it is. Now...my major issue here is backspacing. Why is it that 99% of wheels in an 8" wide have a BS of 4.5"? From what I read a 285 barely clears with that BS if at all, and I need to be able to air down without concern of rubbing. I love the SCS wheels but it annoys me that you have to win some lottery to get them. I've also looked at FN wheels but the 5 stars dont do it for me and the Konigs have the 4.5" BS.

I really don't want to do an 1.25" spacer on a 4.5 BS because I think it will stick out too far.

Can I confirm that a 4.5" BS will NOT clear the stock UCAs with 305s? Also, am I wasting my time here on 305s? I really want just that little bit of extra width.

I have 285's with a 4" backspace 16x8 wheel with less than 3/4" of clearance to the stock UCA and that's with BFG KO2's which run a little on the small side. Not sure if I could fit 305's aired down even with the 4" backspace. I'll probably get aftermarket UCA's if I move up to 305. I don't like spacers, had them on my last rig and it's just to many points of possible failure for my peace of mind
 
My 4" backspace on the 8" wheel is a 0 offset so any negative should push the wheel further out and away from the UCA so I would think it would be fine
 
I’ve had many combos on my 3rd gens but the biggest was 285s with 16x8 0 offset. My new 3rd gen I went with a 3” lift with 265/75s (31s) and it’s my favorite setup. I still get my 22mpg w/ city driving.
 
I'm on the side that it's not worth the hassle trying to fit 305's, considering what it's going to do to your power and drivability. Unless you plan on also going down the regear road.
 
I have 315/70R17 KO2 on 17x9 et0- which means 5" BS- wheels with stock UCA's.
Do they rub the UCA's at droop? Yes.
I've aired down to 12PSI several times for off-road adventures, and the tires don't rub any worse being aired down. I have over 30k miles on my tires now, and the rubbing has cause nothing more than a rub mark on the sidewall.
With a 10mm skinnier tire, and a 1/2" less backspaced wheel, I doubt you would ever even kiss the UCA.
 
Thanks guys for the input! I was under the impression that the UCA rub was through normal suspension use, not necessarily full extension when crawling. I also was thinking this would result in a cut sidewall? I guess my best bet is to go with 285s, I just really want that extra little bit of width.

Now to decide which tires!

Thinking either the Falken M/Ts, Cooper STT Pros, or Toyo M/Ts.
