Hey all.

Changing the rear diff fluid...second time I've done it. I've read the threads and know that it ranges from 2.8 to 3.* quarts of fluid. First time I did it was just under 3qts until it ran out of the fill hole. This time I did it with 3 quarts, and it took all 3, plus the tiny amount (2 ounces?) I had left from the last change and it apparently isn't full. No idea why it's different... I'm using the same level surface and waited about 30min each time on the draining of the old oil, but whatever. I shined a light in the fill hole, and it looks pretty close. I just figured the 3qts would do it when I bought the fluid.

Dare I drive the two miles to the auto parts store to get another quart to top the rest of it off? It has over 3qts in right now... layball:

Not to worry.

Go ahead and drive the two miles. If you think about it; whenever you are driving on a slope the oil is running to the down hill side anyway.

Driving to autoparts store to get more fluid will not hurt it. Heck, you could probably put 20,000 miles on it with no damage.

FWIW my opinion means nothing.

You’d probably fine until the next time you change it. When you drive to the auto parts store and back and then pull the plug, it might be seeping just from the expansion from the heat.

If it is close it is fine... It's not an exact type of thing.

Technically the spec is like 10 MM below the hole so don't sweat it! Did mine last week.:yo:
