Doomsday Prepping your 4Runner

Hey guys,

Was watching that show 'Doomsday Preppers' and was curious if anyone here thought about Prepping their 4Runner for the unforeseen (does not need to be Doomsday)? If so please share what you have planned or currently have installed.

I have thought about these categories but sure there are more...

-Comfort
-Food/water
-EMP
-Armor/protection
-Fuel
-Power
-Communication
-tools
-first aid
-Go pack
-location (are you in city or rural, Desert or Snow etc)

Thought this would be an interesting topic.

Not that its specifically what the planning is for, but most people will do.

Armor
gas cans
CB/ HAM radio
full size spare
Cargo area storage box
-Lots of tools
-spare parts
-Recovery equipment

The EXPO guys also pack car camping type stuff, folding tables & chairs, food stuffs, bottled water, tents, etc..

Seems like a good platform for doomsday as well, I guess.
 
I have found that my mods have been around prepping lately. I was looking into an aux fuel tank since our range is crap in these. I was actually looking to get a Land Cruiser instead for the cargo space.

and props for posting this! most people think i'm crazy when i talk about prepping

I think half the guys that own 4Runners have the idea of needing to use it as a BOV (Bug Out Vehicle) in dire situations. It's just in the very back of our minds.

I personally would never prep my 4Runner for that, for one major reason: if the crap hits the fan, and it's actually THAT bad, there are going to be lots and lots of other issues to deal with. The EMP situation is one of those.

My immediate family has two manual transmission, carbureted vehicles that would and could be used in that situation.

It just so happens that doing the mods to my truck that make it cooler, more fun to drive and more capable for everyday use, also help it be better suited for smashing zombie's and driving at high speed over rough terrain. :)

other than EMP why else would our T4R's not be good as a BOV? of course you're only going to bug out if you have somewhere to go...
 
I just drink 10 beers a night and relax.

All you really need is a gun with one bullet. Who really wants to live without internet? Let me rephrase. Who really wants to live without p0rn?

supposedly if you make a Feriday cage around your computer in your truck then it will "with stand" EMP however there are several computers in the trucks I have always wondered if unplugging the battery would help?

Need a couple bottles of catsup to give the beans some flavor. I still have a garbage can in the basement given as a gag to my father during the Cuban missile crisis. The can was filled with 100lbs. of beans, six bottles of catsup, and two Johnny Walker Red. Everything except the Scotch is still there.

The bullets we already had--I still do.

well since my family is in Houston and I am currently going to school in Galveston (a hurricane prone area, Hurricane Ike and Rita anyone?), I like to keep a lot of crap in my 4runner. I have my maxpedition bug-out-bug, 4runner maintenance stuff/liquids, one person tent, sleeping bag, first aid kit, backpack with extra clothes, and other survival items.

Although I love Walking Dead, I am not so sure an international zombie takedown is going to take place. So instead, I am realistically prepared for hurricanes and other natural disasters.

In regards to the 4runner, I think it will fair pretty well. It doesn't have any protection (front or rear bumper) but I think the 4runner is innately strong (not alot of exterior plastic). Plus, with the decreased weight, I'll get improved mpgs (during Ike, gas stations were closed and people's cars were left stranded on freeway/highways).

Just my take on this interesting thread :)
 
Yeah I am more set up for expo style traveling but my runner could double as a doomsday BOV. I have at all times in my rig,

Tools
advanced first aid kit
fluids
recovery straps
20' chain
assortment of shcakles
lights
machette, hatchet,
shovel
lighter
tarp
some sort of pistol
syphon pump


I think I will start keeping a bag of extra cloths in there as well especailly since my last 4 wheeling experience and I had to go swimming. Might could score some MRE's to stash in there too.
 
Most of those preppers are only good for an extra 6 months or a year at most. And thats if nobody jacks their stash when the day comes. If it hits that hard, 6 months of supplies is only gonna get you 6 months of sleepin with one eye open and looking over your shoulder every waking moment. All i stock up on is ammo. I'll just go down shootin.

I was shocked the first time i watched that show and saw a guy that lives 2 miles from me, that i went to high school with was on there with his wife. Push come to shove, i will just go to his place and we can see who's aim is better or who has the quicker trigger finger.

I always think that when watching. Especially when the "experts" review them. Yeah, you got a 90% except for your dumbass coming on the show and telling the whole world about your stash. For that, you get a 0%.
