Doomsday Prepping your 4Runner

IF things ever get THAT bad then 6 months of beans is just that, 6 months of beans. and where are you going to "bug out" to?

What you need is a silent way to hunt such as a crossbow, in my case i use an air rifle which will take any small game with ease and do so silently even in a crowded city.
Can buy up about 10,000 pellets pretty cheaply.
Some good fishing gear to last you for decades.
Then some land to GROW food on and store lots of seeds in vacuum sealed bags.
If you can Hunt/Fish & Grow then you have food for life.
Never hurts to have a shotgun and a nice cheap to shoot pistol just in case with enough rounds to last you for quite awhile.
Myself I have a Winchester Defender 12ga with a 18" riot barrel and a Keltec PMR30 that holds 30 rounds of .22 magnum, very accurate, plenty of power and can buy 1000s of rounds comparatively cheap.
All of these things can be done fairly cheaply and you don't have to turn yourself into a paranoid loon to do it, especially since the odds of things getting that bad are about 1,000,000 to 1.

I have had my 12ga and my air rifle for about 28 years, my fishing gear have had for decades and have tons of everything needed.
These are all just normal everyday things that really most anybody and everybody already has most likely.
No need to spend 100s of 1000s of $ and basically all of your free time wildly over preparing for what more than likely is not ever going to happen in several lifetimes.
The "doomsday prepper" thing is really sorta nonsense.

Its basically like watching the Scientology nuts waiting for the evil dictator Xenu to come back and take over the Earth.

Give a man a fish and he can eat for a night, teach a man to fish and he can eat fish every night. or something like that

I keep a Jeep in the back of my 4Runner, just in case of a zombie apocalyptic situation.

Reasoning:
Zombie's want brains
Anyone that drives a Jeep lacks a brain
No Zombie will go after someone without a brain
Therefore, the jeep is Zombie proof

You do realize that most of the "city folk" cant hang in the woods for long let alone currently obtain the equipment to survive in the woods in extreme temperatures for a long period of time. They die first either buy starvation or lack of supplies or by the gun. And as far as the people who already live in the woods, I won't f&$@ with them but I'll go up into the back country.

You're assuming these city folk haven't been preparing. I'm not trying to argue or get you worked up, but to make you realize your plan is very similar to everyone else's plan. What's running to the woods going to accomplish if everyone else in your neighborhood are there as well? You think there's enough wild game in those woods that's gonna stay just so you and everyone else from smith bay lane can support themselves?

EMP protection is a tall order on modern vehicles. Not even sure its possible.

Makes me wonder if our 3rd gens (semi-modern?) could still run after an EMP? I'm sure our keyless remotes and safety features would all be all shot but don't we already use metal keys and turn off our electrical safety features with the andymod switch to go wheeling? :D

My other ride is a 2011 Prius and I know that car would not even start if an EMP hit. That car is filled with technology, electrical components out the ying yang. Heck after driving the Prius I forgot what a metal key looked like till I found a good deal on my used 4runner!

Yeah, um, no. All these stupid gold/silver/precious metal dealers that tell you that you need to have gold in case society collapses- it's all b.s. Think about it- even big natural disasters, like Katrina, society goes back to a barter system. If you need food, you don't want gold.

Yep, my high school friend, who was on the show, has never taken a drink in his life. But he buys liquor by the case because he can use some of it to make molitov cocktails and the rest he figures will be good for bartering. I want to know how he's going to know who is approaching him to barter and who's approaching him to forcefully take everything he's got.

If you notice, the show never tells specifically where people are from. So, unless you know them, you probably won't find them. In my case, I know the guy and know where he lives. And the show had a scene of him and his wife sitting on a front porch in rocking chairs. But it wasn't his house as they made it out to be. They did use his real name, however. That's what made me do a double take when I was watching it.

well i wont be using my 4runner for doomsday guys sorry to upset you all but here is what i will use...

Would have been perfect had you said mcgyver instead of grylls. That dude could solve all the worlds problems with fishing line, a thumb tack, and 2 oz of soda powder.

Have you ever spent serious time in the back country of the Pacific Northwest?

No I have not to be 100% honest. Never been further west than nevada nor north of new jersey. PNW might as well be singapore to me. Like I said before, I'm not trying to challenge your knowledge of the area or terrain, but you'd be very naiive to think you're the only person that does or isn't planning to run to the woods. I am not attempting to insult your intelligence, but like I said before, enough of the city folk say they're going to the woods that it sounds like an overnight flip-flop to me.

Yeah but the harsh conditions will weed 90+% of the week city fok out in a week. They won't be able to cut it. And considering the vast expanse of wilderness we have up here it wouldn't be to hard to be isolated. I mean some of the areas I've been on searches are pretty damn remote and the best way in is by helicopter unless you want to make a day hike just to get to base camp. And I'm talking like 5-6000' of elevation change in less than 5 miles. Now try this in the dead of winter with 12+' of snow on the ground. And dont forget somewhere out there is a sasquach.
