Door cylinder locks jammed by thieves

simplest solution, leave the doors unlocked. or, buy a beater and drive it to the trailheads.

Put a dummy that looks like it’s taking a nap in the front seat. Hopefully they don’t rape the dummy. Angeles Forest has changed a lot since I first started driving there in ‘75. Taking the assault rifles and hiking all over the place. Designated shooting areas. Four wheeling on some great open trails all over. Skiing at Waterman and Baldy. Even fishing in the back streams north of Buckhorn It was a local paradise. Then in the late 80’s it started to change. Break ins, littering, shooting and hunting in illegal areas by illegals.

Range Rovers have a key hole but it’s covered by a solid cap so it appears you don’t have one.

On Toyotas, I wonder if you could keep the driver side cylinder but put a cap from the passenger side on it that you could pop off if you needed.

There's no door lock on the passenger side. Only one on the driver's side door.

The problem is when they destroy the lock you often don't see it until you try to use the key to open the door. Meanwhile the busted lock causes a drain on the battery which leaves you with a dead battery in very short time. it also ruined my battery by going dead and recharging often and may times over the course of the last year. I just paid $300 for a new Optima Yellow Top 35-750 battery.

If you don't need the door lock cylinders on the front doors, an idea (from the old Jetta/Golf days) is to see if you can get a set of rear door handles to work on the front doors. Of course, the one on the tailgate is still exposed, but you'll have two less locks for them to mess with.

You need the door lock when you have to use the key to get in. Like when your battery is dead. I just want to cover it so it can't be tampered with.

These peel and stick plastic covers that go over the key portion could do the trick, certainly not fool proof and easily removed but might confuse thieves enough that they don't try to remove it and stick a screwdriver in. The driver's side overlay has a hole in it for the lock so it doesn't do the trick. I wonder if the right-side door would cover the left side door handle?

I've been camping and hiking in Angeles National Forest since the 1970s. I remember some of these freedoms. My fist car was a 36 hp VW bug that didn't lock and I never had a problem way back then.

Now there are break-ins every day. Illegal dumping of all kinds of hard to get rid of trash is filling the landscape. And police enforcement is non-existent. The LA County Sheriff is responsible for crime enforcement but I never see them on the highway.

I'm tempted to wait in the bushes with a gun and shoot the vandals when they appear. Only two problems with that. I don't own a gun and laying in weight to shoot someone is a very serious crime if you get caught. :noidea:

It really is a shame how nice it use to be and that there isn’t any enforcement. But, without ethics, morals and especially consequences, it won’t get better.

I think we're way beyond teaching ethics and morals to people. The world is going to hell when people steal because they can get away with it and when they shoot each other for no good reason. There's way too much violence in society today. But don't get me started...

Consequences will make a difference.

I'd imagine that you could just use one without the key cutout on the drivers side, they all look to be the same dimensions but I can't say for certain whether that's the case or not.
